Humans tend to explain other people’s behavior by their character, but explain our own behavior by our circumstances.

For instance,

Someone cuts you off in traffic:
Your thought is: “This person is rude.”
You cut someone off:
Your thought: “Sorry, I didn’t see them.”
Someone replies late:
Your thought: “They don’t respect me.”
You reply late:
Your thought: I’ve been busy all day

We naturally give ourselves context, but deny that same context to others.

A lot of unnecessary anger comes from assuming intentions when we only see actions.
