above night falls
like ivy over walls
I sit with sand & shell
headlights face the sea
surfing whispers intimate
a silent moon of tai chi
silhouettes the absence
that has grown in me
I count silence of stars
till I find myself adrift
in a space of darkness
headlights face the sea
Poetry is a salve for the heartbroken,
voice for the voiceless,
expression of dawn for those
who dwell in dusk,
Poetry is for you and I,
and our conversations..
toppling piles
of glossy new books
on my bedside table
I re-read the dog-eared one
written by a gentle friend

This is a poet whose legacy was thwarted by her own mentor. She's one of the great shasei poets, but her voice was buried. I really urge anyone who takes haiku seriously to read this book:
