This is all true about workers’ mindsets, but even more importantly - signing people so early takes them out of “experiment with 100 different things” mode. The process itself of trying and failing and adapting and growing and learning nuance is worth its weight in gold. It’s Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hours.

Take that away from them, and they won’t grow in as many new and nuanced ways.

Yes, they can study video footage today more so than any time in the past. But that’s not the same as actually doing the thing.

MJF is the model of someone who can get incredibly good through sheer study, but I believe he is the exception, not the rule.
