Ronaldo is hounded for things others are praised for, especially Messi.

Take the nickname “Penaldo.” When you hear it, you’d think Ronaldo built his entire career on penalties.

The irony is that Ronaldo did not start out as an elite penalty taker. Early in his career, penalties were a weakness. He missed important penalties, including one in the 2008 Champions League final shootout against Chelsea. Back then, he wasn’t called “Penaldo.” He was mocked and criticised.

What happened next is what Ronaldo has done throughout his career: he identified a weakness and worked relentlessly until it became a strength. He went from being an inconsistent penalty taker to one of the greatest the game has ever seen.

Yet instead of being praised for improving a flaw in his game, critics began using “Penaldo” to diminish his achievements.

What’s even more ironic is that Messi holds the record for the most penalties scored in World Cup history, Champions League history, and La Liga history. Yet the “Penaldo” label is reserved almost exclusively for Ronaldo.

As Ronaldo’s goalscoring numbers became impossible to ignore, football discourse suddenly became obsessed with “non-penalty goals.” It felt as though the conversation kept changing whenever Ronaldo excelled. First goals were counted. Then the type of goals started being counted.

Ronaldo was mocked when he missed penalties. Mocked when he took penalties. And mocked when he became one of the greatest penalty takers in football history.

For many fans, that is why the standards have never felt the same. Ronaldo’s story is one of turning weaknesses into strengths, only to see those strengths used against him in the debate over greatness.

Mahdi Shehu’s account of the 1995 Durbar Hotel bombing speaks to foreign interference, regime change politics, and the hidden hands that have shaped Nigeria’s political history.

According to Shehu, a U.S. Embassy political officer approached him in Kaduna, offered him money, and asked him to drop a parcel at the Durbar Hotel as part of what he described as a campaign against the Abacha government. Shehu says he refused, only for the hotel to be bombed shortly after, with journalist Bagauda Kaltho later linked to the incident.

This story forces a larger question: how many times has Nigeria’s instability been engineered, sponsored, or encouraged by foreign powers, only to be later presented to us as our own failure? This is why Africans must pay closer attention to the history we are told, the history that is hidden, and the people who benefit from our chaos.

In a lot of African countries that gained independence after us from 1963 onwards, the first chief justice, auditor general, surgeon general, vice chancellors of universities were all Nigerians! The first black chief justice of Botswana was Akinola Aguda, the first black chief justice of Gambia was Emmanuel Ayoola, when the portuguese left Mozambique in the 70s Nigerian health care officers (doctors and nurses) were sent to shore up their healthcare system from collapse bcos they just didn’t have enough qualified doctors. after all said and done we sent over 10,000 professionals across africa and the carribeans to help them incubate their newly independent nations

should we even talk about the ECOMOG troops in the 90s that 70% majorly funded (spent over $3b+) and equipped by Nigeria with Nigerian soldiers forming 75% of the peacekeeping force? ECOMOG led by us was highly responsible for ending the Liberian and Sierra Leonean civil wars.

I won’t even go into details of what Nigeria contributed to the South African anti-apartheid efforts!

Nigeria gave and gave and forgot to pay attention to its own development and today we’ve become the pariah amongst nations!

Marriage is not an escape from sin. What you cannot control when single can control you even when married. Joseph ran from Potiphar’s wife while single—his future depended on it.
God wants to raise a generation of boys and girls who love Him when no one is looking. Holiness by appearance alone is sending people to hell. Many are singing in choirs, praying publicly, yet dying in secret sin.
Sister, your value before God is not in night vigils or singing, but in decision. God is waiting for you when no one else is. Succeed there, and you will command the supernatural.
The greatest enemy of the end-time church is the misrepresentation of grace. They teach forgiveness but not promotion. God will forgive, but He will not move you to the next level if you remain in sin.
There’s someone reading this now. Heaven is saying: You are due for manifestation, but you haven’t decided yet.
You fear hunger. You fear loneliness. You fear what people will say if you stop trading your body for comfort. But sister, your weekend pleasures cannot steal your eternal value.
Your enemy is not the witch in the village. Your enemy is any man who makes you comfortable in rebellion against God. Stop looking for holiness in church seats while God is preparing the next in line to take your place.
We were there too—leading, singing, praying, yet addicted. Ashamed to confess. Trying every anointing oil, fasting, yet nothing changed… until we encountered the Word of God.
Jesus said, “The words I speak to you will make you clean.”
Read. Study. Esteem His Word above necessary food. Gradually, your appetites will change. Addictions will lose grip. Darkness will flee, and true Light will shine.
Brother, sister—don’t rush into marriage as an escape. The spirit of lust respects no ring. Feed on the Word. Pray. Discipline your mind.
Five chapters a day. One hour or more of prayer. Gradually, your thoughts will align with God’s vision for your life. Jesus said it wouldn’t be easy—but with God, all things are possible.
Your heart may beat faster reading this. You may wonder if freedom is possible. Friend, the God who set us free will show up for you too.
Receive grace to feast on the Word. Let God transform your life. And please, teach the young ones in your church.
