@A_Baguette_Fan@warsthtdnthapn >demand mussolini not to be a retard in teh balkans
as if mussolini was intentionally sabotaging his colonial empires war effort lmao
@KampfgruppeKrag The Portuguese colonial army was more technologically backwards due to sanctions but could still defeat the insurgencies militarily, years on end.
@RBongler@breakfastguy32@OurOwnNation being forced to do it because your economy is stagnating and people are unwilling to die in africa (which leads to draft dodging) is not voluntary
they did not have 3x the casualties, it was probably 1-2x
guinea was pretty much already independent by 1974
@RBongler@breakfastguy32@OurOwnNation angola was not voluntary, it was induced by the cost of the war
read portugal and the future by caetano
the war was too costly
the african side decisively won in guinea bissau
@HaeckelGroyper no, the orange raised and rely on auxiliary forces, who likewise originate from the green
and rwanda is fighting its own vietnam in the congo , rising casualties are leading to mobilizations (which is not a good sign) which is rwanda is relying more on the m23 movement

If you want to understand how unreliable & incompetent African militaries are; the tiny country in orange, which, unusually for an African country, has a relatively competent government, has successfully invaded & currently occupies parts of the green country.
@Ruddkr_@622daysofbunga@juggking898029 they were not fielding aks en-masse until the later stages of the war, they mostly used the same weapons as the portuguese
portugal did not control the vast majority of every african colony either, mozambique was split into there separate pieces
@Ruddkr_@622daysofbunga@juggking898029 the only people who benefitted from the economy rebounding was the state monopolies and elites
the carnation revolution was linked to the economy in every way
@Ruddkr_@622daysofbunga@juggking898029 nope
there were no macroeconomic gains despite the economy rebounding on paper
portuguese citizens continued to be directly affected by the wars economic costs
the portuguese state had to take out loans, the state had to engage in price controlling (which is a terrible idea)
@622daysofbunga@Ruddkr_@juggking898029 they were infact not on the path to victory in mozambique
the fighting was just beginning to intensify, frelimo crossed the zambezi river in 1972, frelimo held 33% of mozambique by 1974
