الشخص الموجود في الصورة هو الناشط الكشميري شكيل أحمد بهات.

في عام 1990، وقت أن كان يبلغ من العمر 12 عامًا اقتحمت الشرطة الهندية منزله، وألقوا بأخته البالغة من العمر 18 عامًا من النافذة، ما أدى إلى كسر ظهرها، وتركتها الدولة من دون علاج لانها مسلمة حتى فارقت الحياة.

وقُتل والده بعد تعرضه للتعذيب والضرب، بينما تعرض شكيل نفسه لتعذيب شديد.

توفي شقيقه بسبب نزيف دماغي، ووالده أصبح طريح الفراش نتيجة الضغوط والانتهاكات المتكررة التي تعرضت لها العائلة.

وفي عام 2007، التُقطت له تلك الصورة الشهيرة أثناء مشاركته في احتجاجات ضد الرسوم المسيئة للنبي ﷺ

وتعرض للاعتقال مئات المرات وقضى سنوات بين السجون حتى خروجه في 2020.

الصورة التي لفت العالم لتشويه الإسلام ويراها البعض “رمزًا للتطرف ” خلفها إنسان عاش الظلم بكل ماتحمله الكلمة من معنى.
