Embassy jointly with the Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies (CBS) and Asian Confluence organised a daylong seminar in Thimphu today on India-Bhutan ties: Trade, connectivity, education, tourism and health.

The Inaugural Session set the tone with the Inaugural Address by H.E. Namgyal Dorji, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment of Bhutan and Keynote Address by H.E. Sandeep Arya, Ambassador of India to Bhutan. Dasho Karma Ura, President, CBS and Mr. M.P. Bezbaruah, Chairman–Governing Council, Asian Confluence reflected on broader backdrop and importance of institutional partnerships.

Through the day, panels with senior officials and scholars assessed the themes of trade, tourism, connectivity, education and health, in detail bringing cross-sectoral perspectives on the way forward for collaboration.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Lyonpo Chandra Bahadur Gurung, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Bhutan, on the sidelines of Sagarmanthan 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening India–Bhutan cooperation in infrastructure, connectivity and transport, while exploring opportunities for deeper regional collaboration towards shared growth and prosperity.
