Vinod Khosla's largest initial investment ever was $25M in OpenAI when it was completely non-profit, no product, no revenue - not even a plan to generate revenue.

Is the Indian VC ecosystem really big? A closer look at the numbers.

There are around 300-400 active VC firms in India. Of these:
--> Approximately 180 firms have invested in 5 or more early-stage deals in India over the last 2 years
--> Around 85 firms have invested in 10 or more early-stage deals
--> Around 23 firms have invested in 25 or more early-stage deals

Note: Early-stage refers to Seed to Series B (new and follow-on investments, excluding debt). The data covers the period from Sept 2022 to 2024.
