I am pleased to announce a collaboration agreement with the Society of Petroleum Engineers International Africa (SPE Africa), marking a significant step toward strengthening technical collaboration, knowledge transfer and innovation across Africa’s energy industry.
The agreement formalizes a strategic partnership between one of Africa’s leading energy advocacy organizations and a globally recognized technical authority with more than 127,000 members across 145 countries. Through the collaboration, SPE Africa will provide technical expertise, advisory support and industry insight to strengthen AEC’s growing portfolio of conferences, strategic initiatives and policy-driven engagements.
At a time when Africa is working to accelerate energy development, attract investment and navigate an increasingly complex global energy landscape, the partnership underscores the importance of technical excellence in delivering sustainable, bankable and efficiently executed energy projects across the continent.
The partnership further reflects a shared commitment to talent development and capacity building within Africa’s energy sector. By leveraging SPE Africa’s extensive student and young professional networks, the collaboration will expand opportunities for early-career engineers to engage with industry leaders, gain exposure to real-world technical challenges and support the advancement of STEM education across the continent. This focus on nurturing the next generation of engineers, especially women, is seen as critical to sustaining long-term growth, innovation and technical excellence in Africa’s energy industry.
"By bringing SPE Africa’s global technical expertise into closer alignment with the Chamber’s platforms and advocacy, we are ensuring that Africa is not only attracting investment, but also delivering projects that are efficient, competitive and built to last. This collaboration will strengthen the quality of technical dialogue across the industry while advancing capacity building and STEM development, creating space where innovation, practical solutions and meaningful collaboration can move the sector forward,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.
“SPE Africa is proud to partner with the African Energy Chamber to support the advancement of Africa’s energy sector through technical excellence and professional collaboration. By connecting our global expertise with AEC’s influential platforms, we are creating new opportunities to strengthen capacity, share knowledge and accelerate innovation,” said Dr. Riverson Oppong, PhD. , President of SPE Africa.
Mr. @nj_ayuk on the Proposed Treaty on Plastics — and Why the African Energy Chamber Opposes It: While the treaty’s objectives are commendable in principle, the concern lies in it being driven by developed nations at Africa’s expense.

Positioning Youth at the Forefront of Africa’s Energy Future: AEC Endorses Youth in Oil & Gas Summit 2025
With first oil production on the horizon in #Namibia, the country is on track for rapid growth across its oil, gas and broader energy sectors. This highlights a strategic opportunity for the country’s youth, and the upcoming Youth in Oil and Gas Summit – taking place July 25-26, 2025, in Walvis Bay – seeks to position young professionals at the forefront of #Namibia’s energy development.
Held under the theme Drilling into the Future: Empowering Youth in Namibia’s Oil & Gas Revolution, the second edition of the Youth in Oil & Gas Summit represents a vital platform for advancing youth-led innovation and inclusion. Offering a vibrant platform for dialogue, education and strategic collaboration, the summit provides an opportunity for meaningful engagement between youth and energy leaders, thereby positioning youth at the helm of #Namibia’s energy future.
The African Energy Chamber (AEC) – representing the voice of the African energy sector – offers its full support and endorsement of the upcoming summit. As a strong advocate for the role youth play in the oil and gas sector, the AEC considers this a vital platform for enhancing collaboration, fostering dialogue and advancing projects.

#OPEC was a blast. Natural gas is green energy for Africa. We reinforced our commitment to produce every drop of hydrocarbons we can find to better the life of Africans.
Cheaper and more reliable electricity supplies are an economic boon, and the increased production of oil and gas in Africa represents an increase in national wealth for many countries.
Let us not forget the adverse environmental effects of wind and solar power, studiously ignored by the opponents of fossil fuels: heavy-metal pollution, wildlife destruction, noise and flicker effects, massive land use and degradation of vistas, landfill problems, and on and on.
The eternal truth is that natural gas is green indeed, and hugely beneficial economically. We should never forget that the #DrillBabyDrill revolution we see in Africa is the result of capitalism and private property rights, and not the machinations of various green politicos from wealthy nations.

Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo remained an unwavering advocate for just energy transitions for developing nations, including those in Africa. His voice and perspectives were greatly needed in our continent and around the globe, and his loss will be felt for years to come.
His death creates a painful void for me as well. It is difficult to fully describe my deep affection and respect for Secretary General Barkindo. He was a mentor and a dear friend, one of the few people in my life I spoke with multiple times daily. It meant the world to me when he wrote the foreword to my best-selling book, Billions at Play: The Future of Africa Energy and Doing Deals.

Our Executive Chairman, @nj_ayuk, delivered a powerful address at the official launch of the South African National Petroleum Company (@_sanpc), a pivotal moment for the country’s energy landscape.
Presided over by the Hon. @GwedeMantashe1, Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, the launch marks the operational start of SANPC, a bold new state-owned entity formed through the merger of iGas, PetroSA, and the Strategic Fuel Fund Association.
Mr Ayuk praised SANPC as a vital step toward reducing #SouthAfrica’s dependence on imported fuel and empowering the country to manage its own petroleum resources more effectively. He highlighted the progress already being made, including signs of reduced load shedding and ongoing efforts to stabilise the power grid.
“This is a defining moment,” said Ayuk. “True transformation starts at home. SANPC is a powerful platform for local innovation, investment, and leadership. It’s about creating an energy sector that’s resilient, sustainable, and proudly South African.”
In his remarks, NJ Ayuk emphasised the significance of this transformation, stating.
“We have drawn lessons from the mistakes and successes of others. Now, we have the opportunity to chart our own course. SANPC must lead in championing Brand South Africa on the global energy stage.”
The creation of SANPC is more than a structural change — it’s a strategic move to:
• Strengthen South Africa’s energy security
• Reduce reliance on imported petroleum products
• Unlock better governance and management of national petroleum assets
This is not just a national milestone — it’s a continental statement of intent. Africa is rising, and South Africa is positioning itself as a serious player in shaping its energy destiny.
