Husband: โIf anything happens to me, promise me youโll never marry again.โ
Wife: โWhy would you say something like that?โ
He smiled.
Husband: โJust promise me.โ
She laughed.
Wife: โI promise.โ
Three months later, he died unexpectedly.
At the funeral, his family barely spoke to her.
His mother even told her:
Mother: โYou were only married to him for four years.โ
Wife: โHe was my husband.โ
Mother: โHe was my son first.โ
She said nothing.
A week later, the family gathered at the lawyerโs office.
Lawyer: โIโm here to read the will.โ
His mother sat proudly beside his younger brother.
Mother: โHe always told us everything.โ
The lawyer opened the document.
Lawyer: โTo my wife, I leave $5 million.โ
Everyone froze.
His mother stood up.
Mother: โWhat?โ
Lawyer: โFive million dollars.โ
Brother: โThat has to be a mistake.โ
The lawyer shook his head.
Lawyer: โIt isnโt.โ
His mother turned toward her.
Mother: โYou manipulated him.โ
Wife: โI never asked him for anything.โ
Then the lawyer continued.
Lawyer: โThere is one condition attached to the inheritance.โ
She looked up.
Wife: โWhat condition?โ
The lawyer looked directly at her.
Lawyer: โYou must read the second letter.โ
Iโm turning into one of those women that call everybody a pet name. Sugar, honey, love, etc. idk it just naturally happened.
I do love a nickname/pet name though
