The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience is a 10-week program at Indiana State. Students work with faculty mentors to complete real research projects.
The 2018 #SUREProgram Poster Symposium, where the students all present their findings from #UndergradResearch for the summer will take place next Thursday (August 2nd) at Dede 1 at 11AM - 1PM. #IndianaState
The last SURE 2018 speaker for the summer is Ravin Gaines, discussing Phosphorus records from Lake Tanganyika and the impact on fish productivity through time. #SUREProgram@EESatISU
Our next speaker is Madj El-Alami discussing his morphometrics analyses of Eunotia from Cumbres Bog. His preliminary data suggests that diatom speciation May be occurring over the last 9,000 years. @DiatomsATTACK @EESatISU#UndergradResearch
Next is Helena Bierly presenting her #UndergradResearch looking at the record of environmental disturbance of Corpus Christi Bay from Hurricane Harvey. Her XRF analysis of the cores show some interesting disturbance patterns that occur downcore. @EESatISU @DiatomsATTACK
Our second speakers for this week’s #SUREProgram are Ahmad Ahmad and Liam Brown. Their #UndergradResearch explores analyzing characteristics of bond length and bond order using multiple linear regression analysis and also animating the Claisen Rearrangement. #indianaState
Kim Gleason, Jackie Smith, and Chinonye Olumba ask: why poison frogs don’t poison themself and does color of frog relate to toxicity? They extract alkaloids from the frog skin and analyze them through #MassSpectrometry for their #UndergradResearch. #indianaState#SUREProgram
Anthony Froehlich is our final speaker, talking about modeling Cubane compression looking at Rydberg orbitals; he also explored molecular compression, and amidoborane’s negative compressibility. #UndergradResearch#SUREProgram#IndianaState
Hillary Johnson (@DiatomsATTACK’s Lab) is up next with her results from analyses of the #Diatom species Discostella asterocostata from the US and it’s invasion and replacement of plankton in Indiana lakes. #IndianaState#UndergradResearch#SUREProgram
Next up for the #SUREProgram this week is Ashley Baysinger (@jspeer13’s Lab) presenting her research on #Dendrochronology techniques exploring tree mortality in Fowler Park. Current favored hypothesis from Cross-Dating analyses: climate change (warming winters). #IndianaState
Trent Carpenter and Brogan Thomas from @RVanHoveln’s Lab present their #UndergradResearch on copper catalysis in two parts: the synthesis of IPrCuOtBu and organosilane neucleophilic addition to carbonyls. #IndianaState
