We are proud to anchor the Odisha Climate Smart Agriculture Alliance in @krushibibhag. We wish to make Odisha a leading example of climate-resilient, and regenerative agriculture, where farmer livelihoods improve while our natural resources are restored.
An article by @ThePrintIndia featured extensive insights from #CSTEP researcher @swags_d on the need to tackle heavy commercial vehicle (#HCV) #emissions.
Read the coverage here: https://t.co/RPrJU7vjK0
Although HCVs (#buses, #trucks, #tankers, #dumpers) make up only 1.74% of #India’s vehicles, they are responsible for over 70% of vehicular #pollution.
These findings come from our latest report, Heavy Duty, High Impact: Mitigating Heavy Commercial Vehicle Emissions in India.

India Clean Air Summit (#ICAS) 2025 – Day 1 Recap
The opening day of #ICAS2025 set the stage for learning and collaboration on #AirQuality science and policy.
⚡ Highlights from day 1:
☁️ During his keynote, Shri Harish Hande (Co-Founder & CEO, @SELCOFoundation) over an overreliance on data. He noted that an end-user solution-centric approach is key to finding the right answers, saying sensitivity leads to needs assessment, which shapes problem statements, and ultimately guides effective solutions. He also urged researchers not to get caught up in baselines and focus instead on benchmarks and work towards them.
☁️ @JaiAsundi, in his welcome note, highlighted that the summit’s purpose was to gather feedback from across the #ecosystem, including students, #pollution control boards, bureaucrats, and local communities. He emphasised that the real challenge lies in ensuring clean air for all using #science and #technology. This, he noted, cannot be achieved through a silver bullet but requires a holistic approach to building effective and sustainable solutions.
☁️ Sessions by #CSTEP researchers Piyush Bhardwaj, PhD, Kavyashree N Kalkura, Umer Ali, SANJUKTA G., and Emil Varghese, PhD provided a grounding in air quality models, observations, and low-cost sensors.
⚡ Masterclasses from global experts:
☁️ Aerosol physical processes by Professor Spyros Pandis (University of Patras)
☁️ Atmospheric and aerosol chemistry by Professor V. Faye McNeill (Columbia University)
☁️ InMAP RCM by Lucas Rojas Mendoza (University of California, Berkeley)
☁️ ACSM/AMS data analysis by Philip Croteau and Matson Pothier (Aerodyne Research)
☁️ Data management for online source apportionment of organic aerosols (OA) by Hasna Chebiacheb
☁️ Source apportionment with PMF/PET by Dr Manjula Canagaratna
⚡Report launches:
#CSTEP released its latest reports on mitigating emissions from heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) and #diesel generator (DG) sets. CSTEP researcher Anirban Banerjee presented key insights from the reports. A new policy-relevant air quality modelling (PRM) dashboard, developed by CSTEP, was also unveiled.
Day 1 brought together science, policy, and learning, fuelling the conversations that will shape the rest of #ICAS2025.
Stay tuned for more updates.

🎉 Celebrating 20 Years of CSTEP!
https://t.co/yyuifa6mCh
From a bold idea to one of India’s leading think tanks, #CSTEP’s journey has been one of purpose, perseverance, and progress. For two decades, we have worked at the intersection of science, technology, and policy, finding sustainable solutions to some of India’s most pressing developmental challenges.
As we celebrate this milestone, we look back on our journey, from Dr V S Arunachalam’s founding vision to the work we do today in #climate, #energy, air quality, #AI, and beyond.
Here is to 20 years of impact and many more milestones ahead.

#CSTEP researcher @indukmurthy was a guest on the latest episode of the InSolidarity #podcast, where she spoke about why smaller women-led collectives need tools to assess and adapt to #climate risks.

She also highlighted what it will take for #grassroots organisations to build #resilience in the face of increasingly erratic #weather events.

“Climate adaptation isn’t just a strategy - it’s a mindset shift.”
In Ep 13 of In Solidarity, @indukmurthy from @CSTEP_India breaks down why resilience, not just mitigation, must drive climate action - especially for informal women workers.

In this @Medium blog, #CSTEP researchers Suvid Manjappa, Vidhatri Thakkar and Lakshmi Menon narrate how women-led cooperatives affiliated with the #SEWA Federation in #Gujarat are quietly shaping everyday climate #resilience through intuitive, often overlooked ways.
Their lived experiences challenge us to rethink #climate policy—not just through data, but through the lens of participation, reciprocity, and collective wisdom.

In this second #blog in the ‘Voices From Climate Frontline’ series, #CSTEP researchers Lakshmi Menon and Tashina Cheranda summarise the main takeaways from the activities carried out during the #climate training #workshop in #Odisha. https://t.co/aiExCaWrbD
#CSTEP’s 'Urban Greenprints' #study looks at nature-based solutions (#NbS) that can help selected wards in #Chennai and #Mangaluru deal with #climate challenges. It picks 4–6 options for each city—like #mangroves or #green roofs—using a decision matrix that looks at their benefits, land needs, and how well they work in #urban areas. This helps identify the best-fitting NbS for each area based on space and practicality constraints.
