When people lose money in the stock market where does that money go? Does it just disappear into thin air or does someone else get to keep it?

This is how most businesses operate now.

Amazon did this. Uber did this.

You undercut the market. Oh taxis are this expensive? How about an uber instead for half the price? Suddenly, the market is flooded and everyone starts using uber. It took uber 14 years to become profitable. Billions of dollars spent.

Then, once they have a dominant share of the market, prices rise. Suddenly it isn't any cheaper than a taxi, and it's actually worse now because your getting picked up in some dudes Corolla that smells like taco bell and air freshner.

Air bnb blitz-scaled but with other people doing the bidding. Then eventually they started adding fees like crazy.

All of these businesses always end up sucking, and people then realize that hey, maybe things like highly regulated taxis and hotels aren't such a bad thing.
