why aren’t the robots working in the mines and oil fields and handling toxic chemicals or picking plastic out of the ocean? why are they writing emails and making powerpoint presentations? what the hell are we doing
On this date in 1983, the first Hooters restaurant opened in Clearwater, Florida.
BITE-SIZED FACT | Six Clearwater businessmen with no previous restaurant experience opened the original location at 2800 Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, where the restaurant still operates today. #80s #1980s #Nostalgia
Tawny Kitaen had the looks, the sexy attitude, and that wild red hair. She was pure 1980s rock and roll.
She was already acting and modeling when Whitesnake’s videos turned her into one of the most recognizable women of the MTV era. “Here I Go Again,” “Still of the Night,” “Is This Love”... once Tawny appeared on that screen, you remembered her.
She had a presence that completely fit the music. Decades later, those videos are still inseparable from her.
Tawny Kitaen passed away in 2021 at only 59 years old.
She didn’t just become part of the MTV era. Tawny Kitaen defined it.
2nd year program, undefeated at 10-0, and now Sectional Champions!
Happy to bring Girls Flag Football to Beech Grove HS & give our girls an opportunity to compete!
Shout out to Ryan Williams, Nathan Rinks , and Montrez Hearon on great coaching & leadership! @ColtsLife
Charlie Becker’s track background is worth more than a quick “multi-sport athlete” mention.
He didn’t start running track until his freshman year at Father Ryan. By his junior year, he was a three-time DII-AA state champion - winning the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 4x400. He tied the school record in the 110s, broke his own record in the 300s and helped set another in the 4x400.
He came back as Tennessee’s top returning 110 hurdler as a senior, dropped his PR to 14.42 and finished second at state by one-hundredth of a second. He also ran the 100 and 200, competed in the high jump and long jump, ran relays and even threw shot put.
For a 6-foot-4 football player, that’s the part that gets my attention. There’s a difference between being fast for your size and having legitimate track speed, hurdle ability, explosiveness and body control at that size. @CharlieB_16 had all of it. 🔥
Through Fernando Mendoza’s first five games at IU last year, he had 1,208 yards, 16 TD and 1 INT on 122 attempts. Hoover through five: 1,101 yards, 15 TD, 0 INT on 107 attempts. Different teams, different games, not an argument that they’re identical, but that’s pretty useful perspective considering some of the conversation around Hoover.
Incredible stat: Indiana is the first Big Ten team with two receivers (Nick Marsh, Charlie Becker) and two running backs (Turbo Richard, Lee Beebe) all over 100 yards in a game since 1995. #iufb
Richard has a career-high 204 yards rushing.
On this date in 1976, “Quincy, M.E.” starring Jack Klugman premiered on NBC.
BITE-SIZED FACT | Klugman played Dr. R. Quincy, a Los Angeles County medical examiner who frequently found himself investigating the circumstances behind suspicious deaths. #70s
