FIONA HILL: What's happening in war in Ukraine is example that strong society, Ukraine, can beat strong state, Russia.

In Ukraine, people stepped up. Innovation emerged from mobilization of Ukrainian society working in lock-step with military.

That's not what you see in Russia. Everything in Russia is a vertical of power leading up to Putin.

Putin keeps everything very tightly held. But Putin is scared of his own society. He's scared of that mobilization. And there's big lesson in that.

I mean, Canada is actually reacting to United States and thinking more about its defense and fending off United States after predatory commentary, predatory policies, tariffs, and other things as well.

Look at Danes and Greenlanders reacting to things that United States has said. I think there's a big lesson in all of this here that we can see in the case of Russia and Putin.

When Lavrov says Ukrainian land was always theirs, he's admitting that russia never planned to uphold the multiple agreements they signed ratifying Ukraine's 1991 borders.

It's another reminder that agreements with russia are worthless. Remember that.

🇪🇺 The European Union will create a system of protection against violations of the rules by new countries

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos says that if a new member state follows the rules - nothing will happen. If not - the protective mechanisms will hit hard.

The basis was the lessons from the experience of Hungary. During the time of Prime Minister Orbán, Budapest systematically blocked consensus on sanctions against Russia and slowed down support for Ukraine.

This time, the Moscow region felt the reach of Ukraine’s long-range capabilities. An oil refinery was hit at a distance of 500 kilometers. I thank the warriors of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, and the Missile Forces for their effective work.

Russia must be forced to end its war against our people. And Ukraine’s long-range weapons are one of the important components of such pressure.

A humiliating morning for the Russian dictator, as the largest refinery in Moscow and one of the largest in Russia, now burns after a barrage of Ukrainian drones bypassed the country's most protected airspace.

Processing 12.8 million tonnes per year (245,000–250,000 barrels per day), this refinery supplies roughly 35–40% of the fuel consumed in Moscow and the surrounding region.
