जसवंत सिंह एक मजबूत किरदार के व्यक्ति थे,वे जब तक पद पर बने रहे तब तक उन आतंकियों की डिटेल्स फाइल करवाते रहे,जब रक्षा मंत्री बने तब भी फौज के आधुनिकीकरण पर जोर दिया,

लेकिन उस समय एक असहाय स्थिति में फंसे वो विदेश मंत्री थे,जिन्होंने राजनीतिक बदनामी स्वीकार की ताकि 176 भारतीय घर लौट सकें। इतिहास उन्हें दोष भी देता है पर साथ में यह भी मानता है कि उस क्षण इससे बेहतर विकल्प ��ायद मौजूद ही नहीं था क्योंकि अपने देश के लोगों को बचाना पहले जरूरी था।
