Today was a brilliant day. Malvern Hills & Tewkesbury. Glorious weather. Not one flat tyre despite all the dirt trails up the hills. Lovely dinner in pub with live music. #cyclingadventures
#worcest is a pretty cool little town! Had a nice wizz round it. Saw a couple of interesting Tudor buildings inside. Ate some cider bread for a tea break and found a cute Romanian place for dinner.
My next door neighbours are hoarders. Yet there seems to have been a break-through, as this past week with the help of the council they removed several van loads of bags of stuff. Now their upper rooms look empty and liveable and it brings me vicarious joy to see.
A question for all non anarchists or communists: is it possible to read #UrsulaLeGuin’s #TheDispossessed and still think capitalism is the best system? Is it possible to live in our current world and believe it?
Would you apply to work for an organisation that used different terminology for men and women so blatantly in their job application E&D form? I’m I the only one that gets annoyed by these double standards?
‘Common good’ as interpreted by the men in charge and the arbitrary demands of the ‘gods’ (or the capitalist machine). In the original the ‘need’ to go to war, in the reinterpretation austerity cuts to safeguard the wealth of our corporate overlords.
However I think I liked #GaryOwen’s Iphigenia in Splott at the @LyricHammer even more! @SophieMelville killed it! I was so blown away it wasn’t until next morning that the connection to the original text came to me. They were both sacrificed for the ‘common good’.
One thing I enjoy is seeing modern interpretations of ancient Greek plays. In September I saw #InuaEllams’ reinterpretation of Sophocles Antigone in the always lovely Regent’s Park @OpenAirTheatre. It was powerful and topical, if a bit obvious, but that’s what many people need.
#Bratislava is a lovely city. It has beautiful buildings and nice views and is very lowkey and relaxed with hardly any traffic. And its pedestrian priority almost everywhere!
You know one thing I really enjoy about the #EU#Schengen area? Crossing borders! There is something so liberating about crossing a border with no checks or controls. #AbolishAllBorders#FuckBrexit
@LinusRees Yes, I saw that. However there is a very good amount of cycle routes along all the main roads. And everyone (drivers, cyclists, pedestrians) seemed to get along.
#Budapest has all road based modes of #publictransport: bus, trolley, tram and metro. You feel quite spoiled for choice! There even is a funicular! All they are missing is river boat buses.
@LinusRees Didn’t have time. Two days is not nearly enough time for Budapest. I have a list of things to do next time I visit. (There will be a next time!)
I’m adding #Budapest and #Bratislava to my list of #cycling friendly cities. The kind where most people on bikes are commuters on hybrids and city bikes. #London why so behind?
