Personally i figured a combination flavor filled battle, with some performance checks, plus a like talent show thing makes the most fun for a battle. Kinda a mix of the ruby/Sapphire and Diamond/Pearl anime contests.
Even combo moves could be added.

If it's a US court then yeah it's not going to look good for the Pokemon company
But if it's Japan then they might get away with it
