Johnny lets him hang himself for thirty seconds, then says the line that still kills: “You really think you’re fooling everybody, don’t you?”

Ed argues about whether it has been seven years or nine. Offers that the baby lions are now treacherous ten year olds.

A newborn died in Nashville overnight on September 10, 2001. His family, in the worst hours of their lives, decided to donate his organs. Only the liver could be used.

Early the next morning a match came back: a 6-month-old girl in Houston named Kareena, dying of liver failure. A charter plane was booked and the recovery surgery at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital was nearly finished. Then the country closed.

Jill Grandas ran Tennessee Donor Services. Her phone rang, and it was her own staff member standing in the operating room. "What are we going to do? No planes are allowed to leave the ground."

There was a liver in a cooler with hours left on it, a baby in Texas who did not have longer, and not one civilian aircraft in America was permitted to move. So Grandas reached for the phone book.

"Believe it or not, 20 years ago in the blue pages, there was a listing for the tower," she said.

Somebody at Nashville International picked up, handed her to a supervisor, and the supervisor's calls reached Senator Bill Frist, a transplant surgeon before he was a politician, who did not need the situation explained to him. The Tennessee Air National Guard was cleared to fly.

They started up a C-130 Hercules, an aircraft built to carry a tank, and put 10 ounces in it.

"We usually take some pretty interesting things in the back of a C-130," co-pilot John Howard said. "And that was probably the lightest payload, next to being empty, that I've ever flown in my life."

Nobody spoke for the first half of the flight. The sky was empty and patrolled by fighters, and the crew understood what could happen to an aircraft that appeared where it should not be. They landed in Houston and handed the cooler over without shutting down the engines.

Dr. John Goss was waiting at Texas Children's Hospital. The transplant went smoothly.

Kareena is 25 now. "All these people who didn't know this little baby, who had no connection with this child, worked together on a day that really tested our nation," she said.

This week, 25 years later, she finally met Jill Grandas in person.

A few years ago, someone mistakenly uploaded a photo of B.J. Novak, best known for playing Ryan Howard on The Office, to a public-domain website. Because the image was now freely available, it ended up being used on all kinds of random products around the world.

When Novak eventually discovered what had happened, he reportedly found the situation more amusing than frustrating, saying, “I am too amused to do anything about it.”

Before watching #TheOdyssey, it's helpful to know these basics:

• Greek mythology is a collection of ancient stories featuring gods, heroes, monsters, and legendary kingdoms. The gods often intervene directly in human lives.

• Troy was a powerful city that fought a famous war against the Greeks.

• The Trojan War lasted 10 years. A coalition of Greek kingdoms laid siege to Troy.

• The Trojan Horse was a giant wooden horse devised by Odysseus. Greek soldiers hid inside it while the rest of the army pretended to sail away. The Trojans brought the horse into their city, and that night the hidden soldiers emerged, opened the gates, and Troy fell.

• After the war ended, the Greek kings and warriors began their journeys home. The Odyssey follows Odysseus's long and dangerous voyage back to his kingdom of Ithaca.

Key mythological figures:
• Zeus – King of the gods.
• Athena – Goddess of wisdom and Odysseus's protector.
• Poseidon – God of the sea and Odysseus's greatest divine enemy.

If you know these three things, you're well prepared:
1. The Greeks won the Trojan War.
2. Odysseus was the mastermind behind the Trojan Horse.
3. He's trying to return home after the war while the gods influence his fate.

Ken Burns, my favorite documentary filmmaker, has spent 50 years telling the American story, including of the Revolution itself. Nobody alive has looked harder at who we are and how we got here.

So when he warns us, we should listen.

Burns said the founders would not be surprised by a president’s reach for authoritarian power. But what would leave them completely disappointed is how poorly Republicans in Congress have responded.

Article I, the branch the founders built first and strongest to be the bulwark against exactly this, has abdicated its power and handed it to the executive.

The executive was supposed to carry out the will of the people’s representatives, not rule over them. Right now a Republican majority is choosing to surrender that authority to Donald Trump rather than do the job the Constitution gave them. 

I took an oath to the Constitution, not to a party or a a president.

The whole point of this new thing the founders created in 1776, was that we do not suffer under authoritarian rule quietly.
