Rooting for the engineering team today. 4+ hours of login failures on the biggest traffic day of the year is brutal, and most of these systems were never built for a stampede.

If you're in the war room right now: check your DB connection pool before you scale another pod. That's where login usually dies first. PgBouncer or RDS Proxy in front buys you room fast. Cache the auth lookup for 30 seconds. And if none of that holds, put a waiting room in front of login. Users forgive a queue. A blank error screen is what they remember.

Frontend env vars should not force a rebuild per environment.

VITE_*, NEXT_PUBLIC_*, and REACT_APP_* are baked into browser bundles at build time. That breaks the “build once, deploy anywhere” container model.

REP injects typed runtime config into HTML at container startup:
REP_PUBLIC_* for browser-visible config
REP_SENSITIVE_* for encrypted browser-delivered values
REP_SERVER_* never leaves the server

Same image. Different runtime config. No envsubst, config.js, or bundle search-and-replace.
