The oldest fossilised sperm has been found inside a female #crustacean preserved in amber.
#Ostracods micro-crustaceans, as #fruit#flies, have giant sperm but this #megasperm dates back to at least 100 million years ago 🤯🤯 ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Dementia is not an inevitable part of ageing, it is caused by diseases, most commonly Alzheimer’s. So, this #WorldAlzheimersDay is about hope. Hope that research will find a breakthrough. Please watch and #ShareTheOrange - https://t.co/VUyc606Yhs
This #WorldAlzheimersDay, we're encouraging everyone to start a conversation about dementia.

Did you know that #ThomasEdison electrocuted several zoo animals, including #Topsy the #elephant, just to prove that Nikola Tesla’s #alternating current was more dangerous than his own #direct current?
He even recorded all of it to show the rest of the world...
Japanese inventor #Yoshiro#Nakamatsu - Nobel prize winner and one of the greatest #minds in human #history- would routinely work under water for hours at a time!!!!
Nakamatsu patented more than 3,300 #inventions by starving his brain of oxygen!

Lastly, while this is a good example of how primary infection can prevent disease from subsequent infection, more studies are needed to understand the range of outcomes from reinfection. (end)
📍BREAKING—First ever official re-infection case of #COVID19 documented. Research team from @hkumed report the first reinfection in press release. Patient reinfected by a completely separate strain of #SARSCoV2 from original, as proven by 🦠🧬sequencing. Details & implications🧵
A first case of #COVID19 reinfection from HKU, with distinct virus genome sequences in 1st and 2nd infection (142 days apart). Kudos to the scientists for this study.
This is no cause for alarm - this is a textbook example of how immunity should work.
(1/n)
Reinfection occurs if the virus changes or with high viral dose exposure. Here they found the strain of SARS CoV-2 was different. But as expected the immune system worked and the patient was asymptomatic.
@DrSidMukherjee@Rfonsi1 - your thoughts...
My thoughts on Hong Kong reinfection report.
The key question is not whether COVID reinfection occurs. It is whether reinfection will be severe. I have said before that severe reinfection will be very rare, and reinfections won’t cause a repeat of the pandemic. NO need to panic
#WorldMosquitoDay is set to remember the discovery of the connection between #MOSQUITOS and #MALARIA.
Mosquitoes do not only cause malaria, but many other diseases such as #Zika or #WestNileVirus (WNV). Recently, there is being a WNV outbreak in Spain with 17 in hospital
