🗣️ “This is football, not theatre. Tielemans gets to the ball first, Camara is doing exactly what every defender in the world is taught to do—protect his team and clear the danger. They arrive almost at the same time, there’s minimal contact after the challenge, and for me that is never enough to decide a World Cup match.

The Laws of the Game don’t punish every collision. A penalty should only be given when there is a clear foul—careless, reckless or excessive force. Simply touching an opponent after competing honestly for the ball is not a foul. Football has always been a contact sport.

VAR was introduced to correct clear and obvious mistakes, not to turn every tackle into a courtroom investigation. Every time football pauses for decisions like this, the game loses part of what makes it beautiful.

We fought for every metre, every duel and every second. Belgium were under pressure, and one whistle suddenly had the power to erase everything we had worked for. That’s difficult to accept.

If that’s a penalty today, then defenders should stop tackling altogether because any contact can suddenly become a spot kick. That cannot be what football is supposed to be.

Modern football is slowly becoming too soft. The players should decide these matches, not endless reviews and controversial decisions. We accept defeat when another team is better, but not when the game is taken away by moments like this.

No matter what happens, Senegal will continue fighting with pride because that’s who we are. But football has to protect fairness first, otherwise everyone loses.”
