@Jay_JayLuvsYa Even if they’re not doing it themselves, they’re often watching other boys do it and starting to think of it as normal. That’s why I think it’s good for them to be exposed to feminist ideas early, so they can question this stuff and decide what kind of person they want to be
I don’t know if this is OP’s situation, but I think there is a type of man who feels upset upon learning how being part of the oppressor class under patriarchy impacts his relationships with women, but, instead of blaming patriarchy, he blames feminists for talking about it
My own sister told me I was inherently violent and creepy to women for being a man when I was like 12 and I don’t think people quite grasp how many young men’s brain got broken by stuff like that happening during this period
@Jay_JayLuvsYa No, I don’t think people are born into maleness— I think people are sorted into it at birth and societally incentivized to oppress girls and women in order to reap the benefits of patriarchy. At age 12, many boys are already sexually harassing and demeaning their female peers
To be clear, the average Gamergater was not the guy who encountered feminist rhetoric and got upset because he didn’t want girls to think of him as an oppressor. The average Gamergater was this guy
The fact that well-intentioned men sometimes feel bad when engaging with feminist theory is not a sign that there is something wrong with the theory– it is what one would expect if feminists were accurately describing patriarchy and its effects
You should be upset to learn that an identity that you’ve been taught to care a lot about (manhood) is constituted and enforced through the violent subjugation of women
@EOpsych I think it depends on the context. Many ppl will endorse the idea that men are inherently violent when it is used to excuse the actions of violent men but denounce it as bigotry when it is used to argue for feminist separatism
I suppose this poll will get used to make a point about “the Inherent Biological Differences between the Male and the Female Libido” while ignoring the obvious social factors at play
Poorly framed question– when women talk about “bad sex,” they often mean painful sex, but when men talk about “bad sex,” they typically mean boring sex
Beginning to suspect I am one of those people who actually needs 9 hours of sleep per night. Unfortunately, I spent most of my adolescence only getting about 6 hours and now I’m afraid my brain is permanently cooked
