...as Adu Cubana reaffirms his continued support for positive initiatives
The renowned philanthropist, Barr. (Dr) Olumuyiwa Adu "Cubana" has donated a multi-million medical hostel to Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in an epoch-making event that took place at Iro Quarters in Akure on Wednesday, April 16, 2026.
Dr Adu who is widely acknowledged for his positive contributions to life-impactful initiatives has made several donations and interventions across many towns and villages in Ondo State and beyond, underscoring his huge magnanimity and public-spiritedness.
In his welcome address, the representative of the donor, Apostle Kehinde Omoniyi, Ph.D described the gesture of his principal as applaudable.
Dr Omoniyi explained that: "The Donated OLUMUYIWA ADU MEDICAL HOSTEL will ameliorate the accommodation challenges of the medical students, upgrade the institution's ratings and accelerate the accreditation of the newly introduced medical courses."
Dr Adu's gesture which was highly appreciated by the community and school management further highlights his unflinching commitment to community development, capacity building and humanitarian services.
While appreciating the efforts of all the stakeholders that culminated into achieving FUTA's medical dream, the Ondo Central Senatorial Hopeful appealed for more individual - government collaborations for the betterment of our society.
"Those who have the financial capacities should endeavour to contribute to the developmental needs of their communities as a matter of spiritual injunction and social responsibility," he sermonised.
The Deji of Akure land, His Imperial Majesty, Ọba (Dr) Ògúnlade Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, CFR, JP, Odundun II, expressed his delight at this rare generosity.
"This is not his first time of doing great things like this. My traditional colleagues from various domains always report his kindness to me whenever we meet at the council of Obas' meetings or at public functions. Adu is my good son.
"The increased participation of Akure Indigenes in the developmental process of Akure has ushered in a new dawn for Akure land within the larger ecosystem.
"Gone are the days when Akure Community would be running helter skelter, looking for 5 Million donation, with Adu Cubana and other sons and daughters of Akure, the new dawn is here. Akure will no longer be broke again," the king affirmed.
Kabiyesi prayed for long life, good health, safety, victory and greater accomplishments for Dr Olumuyiwa Adu whom he described as an excellent personality and a genetic dogooder.
Chief Imam of Akure Empire, Sheik AbdulAkeem Yayi-Akorede Albarka, praised Adu Cubana's tireless strides to improve the status of Akure and add values to people's lives. The respected Islamic Cleric prayed profusely for him and sent his best wishes to the Akure-born billionaire.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji lauded the extra ordinary largesse of Dr Adu Cubana as an inducted eminent friend of FUTA.
Her words: "......Dr Adu came to our rescue at the critical point when the institution was finding it difficult to meet up the full accreditation of our MBBS programmes.
"He removed the imminent reproach and embarrassment for Akure Kingdom. This commitment to support FUTA MBBS programmes would, without any shred of doubt, be beneficial to generations after generations and this type of benevolence will never be forgotten by the institution."
The attendees included government functionaries, traditional rulers, politicians, civil servants, academics, Iro residents, journalists, religious leaders, members of Akure Development Initiative (ODI) and Olumuyiwa Adu supporters among other dignitaries and well wishers.
