@JaminrpP they did have good marketing, but it did build off of the original tradition of having a diamond ring, which people ignore often! plus, now there isnt just "one owner" and there hasn't been for decades! regulations and new players diversified the industry.
@jewelbuzz_mag its super interesting to see people collecting natural diamond pieces, even before getting engaged or married! natural diamonds are so good to collect to pass down
@miningandenergy lab diamonds can never compete with the culture and significance that natural diamonds have, especially coming from Namibia! so important to highlight the impact these diamonds have on the community!
@diamtrader they definitely helped boost the diamond industry, but there was demand prior. even diamond rings were popular before, which most people dont realize. now, de beers is vastly different which I think is important to note. more transparency and ethical stonesss!!
@_KingBacon the history is very sad but its good that today the industry is sooo different and there are ethical natural diamonds. so good to see diamonds supporting communities like in botswana and ensuring the miners are safeπ
@Krisbraddock@Kalshi de beers actually doesn't and hasn't had majority control in over 20 years lol, but it seems like thats the only name people know in the industry
@Wade_Jeremy76@courtneyknill actually, a lot of people think this but its not the case! diamond rings predate de beers, even going back to the victorian era. they just have the marketing people remember
@josh_nimako no they definitely influenced culture, but usually the stats about how many people had diamond rings come from the 1930s and 40s, during the Great Depression and war times, they aren't totally accurate!
@shanaka86 everyone references the "story" but in reality natural diamond engagement rings predate de beers marketing, they hold emotional and cultural value for people!
@SamKovX dare I say, people dont buy them as an investment, they buy them for the emotional and cultural value that labs just don't have because they are mass produced (plus technically, natural diamonds will hold more value as an heirloom)
