At a time when the world is losing its humanity, empathy is almost a forgotten way of life, blade runner has always been a movie that reminds us to hold onto these things that make us human through its beautiful yet broken world, as well as with 2049.
Honored to unveil my poster for the 20th Anniversary release of Pan’s Labyrinth in theaters for @RealGDT - 20 years ago, I was creating covers for a DC/Vertigo series called Fables, and also developed a collaboration with Prada based on fairytales (which included a tiny porcelain Faun). Pan’s Labyrinth was an artistic achievement that not only spoke to the moment and of deep mythology, but represented an uncompromising vision that inspired me and countless others.
Remembering a true legend 🕊️
One of the quiet legends behind Studio Ghibli’s magic ✨
She wasn’t a director or a celebrity voice actor, but her animation helped shape some of the most emotional and visually alive moments in anime history.
As a key animator, Futaki worked on beloved films:
• Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
• My Neighbor Totoro
• Kiki’s Delivery Service
• Princess Mononoke
• Spirited Away
• Howl’s Moving Castle
• Ponyo
• The Wind Rises
• When Marnie Was There
• Akira
• Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise
and many more!
For decades, she was personally trusted by Hayao Miyazaki and the studio with the kind of details that made Ghibli worlds feel real: movement, nature, animals, atmosphere, and quiet emotional expressions. Those small moments are a huge reason so many scenes still stay with fans years later.
June 19 marks her birthday, and her legacy continues through the films that introduced generations of anime fans to the beauty of hand-drawn animation.
Rest in peace, Makiko Futaki 🕯️
‘Lilo & Stitch’ creators Chris Sanders & Dean DeBlois have shared a piece of artwork honoring the late Daveigh Chase.
Chase voiced Lilo in the ‘Lilo & Stitch’ film.
Midi is such a stinky and funny form of electronic music but whenever I played classic doom which I always been a fan of, I’d physically headbang to the beat because he made it that badass with such a metal influence onto it, rock on forever.
