@mary_lebone This is so ridiculous! Thank goodness your patient knew to ask for this exception, otherwise there would have been problems post-delivery.

People in America don't want #UniversalHealthCare, they are afraid of rationing of care.
#Insurance controls what we do, hence rationing care.
I see people all the time who don't want to pay for care (office visits, meds, etc.) or who can't
Seems like there should be a better way

@GallaherCaren The insurance companies. It's obvious. It's all about the money and paying their CEOs and/or shareholders more money. Control what the physicians can/can't do. Own the physicians. Make more money. That's where we are in 🇺🇸, the patients are the ones who lose

I was notified today, that my patient who has an undiagnosed cardiac murmur, was approved for an echocardiogram, AFTER REVIEW BY THE INSURANCE company.
The #insurance co. pays someone to review my order for an echo for murmur.
Can anyone explain this?
What other possible test?

It's January! Time to start the #insurance shuffle.

Signed order for briefs & underpads (DME) for disabled patient in late December.

Signed 2nd order the following day. Same requested items, new form.

Yesterday, "We need a signed letter stating medical necessity"

Why do we do this? Because #insurance companies control what medications get paid for and even if you take a medication regularly, and your disease is well controlled on this medication, the insurance can decide not to cover it any longer because of 💰.

In two days, it will be January 1, 2022.
Many people will have new insurance.
Those of us in #medtwitter will spend the next 3 months (or longer), doing prior auths, changing medications, & arguing with insurance just to get our patients medications that they already take.

Just received 3 different letters, each 6-8 pages long, to FINALLY approve the levalbuterol for my patient who has been using it for over a decade and can't use albuterol due to side effects.

Patient: The ortho doctor says that I need to get a CT, but the insurance says you need to order it

Me, the PCP: Looks for ortho note, it's not been sent to me

Why can't the ortho just order the CT? I don't even know what test they want ordered or why!
