On this 25th anniversary of 9/11, the grief was never only American.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in New York, at the Pentagon, and in a Pennsylvania field, among them citizens of many nations.

The shock was felt in homes far from Ground Zero. We remember the victims. We pray for their families, and for those who still carry the loss.

Terrorism in any form is an assault on the innocent. It should never be excused, romanticized, or used as a bargaining chip.

Nor should region, religion, or politics be twisted to settle scores or chase other aims. When that happens, ordinary people pay.

The world wars already proved it: tens of millions of people died through famine, bombardment, occupation, and the machinery of power. Humanity, not ideology, was left in the ruins.

Please remember the dead. Reject terror.

On this anniversary we remember the 9/11 attacks as a tragedy whose effects reached far beyond America's borders.

Thoughts remain with every victim and every family still carrying that loss.

A quarter-century later, too many people in the Middle East, South Asia, Africa and elsewhere continue to live under the threat of terrorism.

Addressing both the political misuse of religion and the proxy conflicts that sustain it will require more than force; it also calls for serious engagement with ideas and develop authentic counter narratives.

The use of religion for political ends and proxy wars must stop; those root causes have to be confronted at the intellectual and narrative level, not only with force.

Violence against women and girls remains one of the world’s most widespread human rights violations.

It is pervasive, but it is not inevitable. We all have a role: speak out, support survivors and protect women and girls everywhere.

Nearly one in three women — 840 million globally have experienced physical or sexual violence from a partner or someone else in their lifetime, a figure that has barely changed in two decades.

In the past year alone, 316 million women faced intimate partner violence and 12.5 million adolescent girls were affected.

In 2024, 50,000 women and girls were killed by partners or family members, 137 every day, or one every 10 minutes.

These official WHO and UN Women/UNODC figures show why action cannot wait.

The latest Met Office outlook confirms a higher chance of a wetter and warmer UK autumn.

A strong El Niño in the Pacific is already near record levels. It is expected to peak this winter.

The chance of a warm, wet autumn is now 1.5 to 2 times higher than normal. Windy weather is also more likely later in the season.

This raises the risk of heavy rain and flooding. Exact timing and location remain uncertain.

El Niño is only one driver. It does not decide every day of weather.

Search Ends in Tragedy: Pakistani Paraglider Asif Mahmood Found Dead in Chitral

The body of Pakistani paraglider and renowned diver Asif Mahmood has been recovered from the mountainous Buni area of Chitral.

Mahmood went missing after a paragliding accident on Thursday. Poor weather and difficult terrain reportedly hampered the search and recovery operation.

His family confirmed his death. Mahmood, originally from Suraj Gali in Khanpur, was known for his passion for paragliding and diving.

His death has left Pakistan’s adventure sports community mourning. RIP.

25 Years After 9/11: Al Qaeda Still Has a Foothold in Afghanistan

A quarter-century after 9/11, Afghanistan remains a concern for regional security.

UN assessments say 15,000–20,000 militants from around 20 groups remain in the country. Al Qaeda itself is much smaller than it was in 2001, but it continues to maintain links and a presence in Afghanistan.

UN monitors say Al Qaeda provides training, advice and support to other militant groups, including the TTP. Recent UN reporting also says senior Al Qaeda figures are believed to be in Kabul.

The Taliban deny hosting terrorist groups, but UN assessments continue to raise concerns about militant networks operating from Afghan territory.

The threat is no longer the same as in 2001. But it has not disappeared.

Oil Shock: The Bigger Risk Isn’t $150 It’s Staying Above $100

Oil has crossed $100 a barrel again, with Brent nearing $110 as disruptions continue around the Strait of Hormuz.

The key concern is how long prices stay high. A prolonged period above $100 could fuel inflation, keep interest rates high and weaken global growth.

The report says $120–$125 is a realistic next peak if disruptions persist. A move to $150 is possible in a much worse scenario.

Emerging economies face greater risks as higher energy costs can weaken currencies, widen current-account deficits and increase inflation.

The danger is less about one sudden price spike — and more about a prolonged stagflationary shock.

Musk Documentary Sparks Legal Threat

Elon Musk’s lawyers have threatened legal action over a new four-hour documentary by filmmaker Alex Gibney.

The film, “Musk,” premiered at the Venice Film Festival and received strong reviews, including descriptions such as a “lacerating portrait” and a “damning” portrayal.

Musk’s lawyer alleges the film was built around a predetermined conclusion and says Musk and people close to him were not given a proper chance to fact-check it. The filmmakers reject the accusations and say scrutiny of powerful figures is protected by the U.S. First Amendment.

Musk has also attacked the film on X, calling it a “hit piece that misses.”

The dispute could now move from the film festival to the courtroom.

When Brussels is still writing cheques on this scale more than four years in, it is a fairly clear signal that no one in charge expects the fighting to end soon.

At least 26 students have been killed after a devastating fire spread through two schools in Bukavu, eastern DR Congo, according to local authorities.

The blaze tore through the schools, leaving dozens dead in one of the region’s deadliest recent school fires.

A sitting prime minister choosing a commercial flight and paying personally for a family visit, rather than converting it into an official trip, is a useful reminder that public office is a trust, not a perk. Character shows most clearly when no one is watching the expenses.

Leadership also carries a duty to the office itself. Protocol exists because the role represents the state, not just the individual. Humility and dignity are not opposites; both matter.

What Pakistan needs from every leader, irrespective of party, is the same standard: private means stay private, public resources stay public, and personal integrity is treated as non-negotiable rather than optional.

Pentagon rules prohibit uniformed officers from attending partisan political events in an official capacity, and a spokesman confirmed Caine was at a nearby 9/11 anniversary event instead.

Diesel prices in USA crossed $6 a gallon nationwide for the first time.

That hits the public through trucks, not just pumps. Freight, groceries, building materials and farm costs all rise when diesel does, so the extra expense shows up in weekly shops and deliveries rather than only at filling stations.

Houthis have completed their takeover of the Bab al-Mandab area after seizing a key Red Sea island and the port of Mokha.

This gives them dominant positions overlooking one of the world’s most important shipping chokepoints, the narrow gateway between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, through which around 12% of global trade normally passes.

With the Strait of Hormuz already disrupted, this route has become the main alternative for Saudi oil exports.

The advance significantly increases Houthi (and Iranian) leverage over international shipping and energy flows.
