Every attempt has failed and given Dems the victory. Remember the reform party? Ross Perot gave Bill Clinton the win. Pat Buchanan got nowhere when he ran under the Reform Party in 2000, although he was a populist. A successful candidate would need to be extremely charismatic and well-known, and back up the candidacy with at least one billion dollars. Why not just battle it out in the republican party and fund reform-minded candidates? Win over the party one race at a time.
