The media is doing this because they don't like Elon, but also because Tesla doesn't advertise. They've done almost no traditional advertising of any kind.

When a news org says something negative about GM/Dodge/Ford, they can get advertising funding pulled in retaliation. When they say something negative about Tesla, they get accolades from the anti-Elon crowd and no real negative consequences.
