Women's Language Exchange provides a space where Arabic and Hebrew speaking women can learn each other’s languages, while discussing intercultural topics and getting to know each other.
This activity is part of the Interfaith Peacebuilding Initiative, funded by @USAIDWBG.

The group Ohr-Nur has been meeting for 19 years, becoming a community of its own. Recently, they held an encounter attended by 13 members of the group, including Muslim, Christian, Druze and Jewish participants, and reinforced their wishes for cooperation and understanding.

We were thrilled to hold our annual interfaith Iftar last week, gathering participants our groups, along with guests. We thank Felm Center Jerusalem for hosting us, and @USAIDWBG for sponsoring this event, as part of our Interfaith Peacebuilding Initiative.

Participants shared verses and personal stories related to this concept, and how something which may feel counter-intuitive can help some people cope with difficult situations and maintain hope. We seek connection even, and perhaps more so, in adversity.

The Young Adults group in Jerusalem discussed a fascinating topic on their last encounter: the custom to praise God when bad things that happen.

Muslims explained that the sentence Alhamdulilah is used to give praise to God for everything that is good and bad. Jewish participants explained that also in Judaism there is the concept of praising God even in difficult situations.

Although most of our groups meet in the Holy Land, we have a few who meet abroad. Interfaith Encounter of D.C. region and beyond has discussed several topics related to spirituality, culture and social justice, while developing an impressive interfaith network!

Even during these dark times, the IEA was able to start the a new group: Women’s Language Exchange. In this group, Arabic-speakers speak in Hebrew, and Hebrew-speakers in Arabic, with coordinators providing questions, activities and vocabulary support. #Interfaith #HolyLand
