@michaelroche@dances not going to happen. Not in the current Chicago political climate. but Chicago clubs are already open until 4am and 5am on Saturdays. also Ive run 22 hour parties starting at 7am. the market for that sort of stuff in Chi is not as big as people think. I hope im wrong.
@dances@Spybar No apology necessary, I’m trying to understand so I can do my part to change things and shake shit up. Appreciate the civil conversation
@dances I’m talking public or venue side. Artists should be able to opt-in to selling that data IMO if they want. It’s their data. Spotify could offer a paid service on the public side where the revenue gets split to artists who opt in.
@dances Absolutely understand and respect your perspective. And I suspect the agency tactics you alluded to are a big reason all the new artists sound alike. Shit some even look alike.
@dances The 2-3 year thing is accurate, it’s a relationship being built hopefully for the equal benefit of both sides. This could all be easily solved if Spotify and Apple Music opened up the stats even via paid service that would be valuable for everyone
@dances So if artists want to go solo and release on their own, how do I as a talent buyer measure some of the risk I’m taking amongst this pool of label less artists. margin for error is small I have to a lot these parties inbetween guaranteed money makers
@dances Agree about the non cool label artists doing better than some global headliners. But if you are taste making as a buyer you are already following the non cool labels that’s how I booked them to know in the first place. But sometimes even those non cool labels offer shit contracts
