@Aella_Girl Is this a test of how good people are at guessing ages, or a test of how long they will play a game that calls them a retard and tells them their mother doesn't love them if they guess wrong?
@tracewoodgrains Good bit, took me a second.
On the topic: have you read @jenniferdoleac's new book? Strongly recommend.
It's frustrating how much more productive all of these conversations would be with better crime data.
@mattyglesias I think the theory here is that the differential in when Republicans and Democrats return their ballots and the swings that creates in the vote count as it moves forward slowly creates a more credible way to claim fraud that is more likely to to fool more people.
@AndyMasley It IS quite bad to rough up people you date, but is that what is really in the NYT story? My impression from reading it was not that it went that far, even if you choose to believe the accuser with potentially compromised motives.
(Platner is a bad candidate either way)
@john_dough@wildland_zko I'm actually attempting to ignore you completely! I'm not evangelizing AI to the general public - I'm attempting to help Zeke, whose work I deeply respect, with a concrete problem he is trying to solve.
Feel free to go have this discussion with someone else, good luck!
@wildland_zko@john_dough It's not the CLI interface you remember from 1995.
But you can use Code from the desktop app as well. I would just avoid using the Chat interface - it is pretty bad at performing work.
If you want some help getting set up feel free to DM and I'd be happy to get you going.
Okay here's my argument for exactly how I think the "AI uses a bottle of water" statistic looks like it was miscalculated. It's a little in the weeds. Link below
@AJentleson Yes.
But also if the party went back to 'safe legal and rare' as a national brand it would be in a better position to contest many more seats and actually hold power.
@SarahLongwell25 Part of the reason for this is that the factional fight isn't really about Dem voters.
The moderates aren't saying the Democratic party should moderate to win Dem voters, they're saying the party should moderate to win Independents and maybe some Trump skeptical Republicans.
@averyfjames@mattyglesias This doesn't seem correct. During the agenda setting phase ofthe Biden presidency everyone expected Trump was out of politics post January 6th.
The campaign may have been a coalitional fusion in moral opposition to Trump, but the governance wasn't about Trump at all.
@NateSilver538 There's a lot of context engineering you can do to make this better but if you're used to working with Opus 4.5/4.6 the best thing you can do for immediate performance gains is:
/model claude-opus-4-6[1m]
/effort max
@jessesingal@PodSaveAmerica Isn't their entire staff made up of VERY left wing 20-somethings who think the bosses there are centrist neolibs? I do not think they are *capable* of treating this issue in a nuanced way for fear of staff blowback, 2020 style.
@mattyglesias I feel like I remember you saying recently that you had become more skeptical of white papers in a way that might lead you to approach them differently then you did on The Weeds, so very curious about this.
@PeterMoskos On one hand I sort of agree with you, this seems clear. On the other hand, "We should all worry less about the presumption of innocence" seems like a pretty iffy take.
There are lots of cases that seem clear but aren't really, so maybe being pedantic here is good actually.
