one of the pillars of rap music is being a lyricist so I think if you’re not that, you’re not exactly honoring the craft. but people who started listening to rap in 2014 don’t give af and will claim non lyrical rap as “evolution” as opposed to an erosion of the essence of the art form. respecting a culture means being educated on it’s history/honoring certain core values and being a lyricist is one of the core values of hip hop which is why upon all the “evolutionary” hip hop artists, drake Kendrick and Cole (lyricists) are still the biggest
