Whenever an Urhobo man is governor, the Urhobos want war, either with Ijaws or with Itsekiris. But they forget that it has never favored them, maybe because most of them weren’t even born at the time.

Felix Ibru (Urhobo) served as governor from 1992 to 1993.

In 1992, Urhobos attacked Itsekiris during our coronation parade in Warri. We defended ourselves, and 4 Urhobos died, with no single Itsekiri casualty recorded.

In 1993, Urhobos attacked Itsekiris again during a parade. Yet again, Itsekiris defended themselves, and 2 Urhobos died, but they claimed 10 Urhobos died to the media.

James Onanefe Ibori (Urhobo) served as governor from 1999 to 2007.

In 2000, Idimi-Sobo (Urhobo quarters) attacked Okere community by orders from Okumagba, killing two Itsekiris in the middle of the night. Itsekiris retaliated and set their houses on fire. Urhobos reported large casualties.

In 2002, an Urhobo compound in Ereku land, Odion community, under Itsekiris, tried to attack Itsekiris. It didn’t end well; their houses were destroyed, and they fled from the community.

In 2004, during the Warri South election, Urhobos attacked Itsekiris. Over 200 Urhobos were injured in Itsekiri retaliation, and more fled from Warri for over 3 months without returning.

Now, in 2024, Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori (Urhobo) is the current governor. As usual, the Urhobos are campaigning to massacre the Itsekiris so they can take their lands and political rights.

I’ve said this before, and I will say it again: if they think this is 2004, they are surely living in an illusion. An attack against Itsekiris will end in their immediate removal from our lands with full force. We will not be intimidated to give them our LGA; never, and we are not joking about it this time around. We will not back down. The reason they always talk about war is that these Urhobos haven’t seen war—not small community fights, but war.

We have seen war, and we have fought wars. We have gotten our own shares of victories and losses. The reason we have been peaceful in giving the Ijaws and Urhobos political benefits at our own expense was for the sake of peace, since the Delta State government supports them. But if the Urhobos want war with Itsekiris, they should know that they will be eradicated from Itsekiri lands. We will, without any doubt, respond to any threats or attacks to our people. Itsekiri nation is ready to defend itself against any form of aggression.
