@stepfordTO Sounds like a nice selection of places. Because we go to visit our son and family, we tend to remain in Berlin. Going for three weeks again later in October.
@stepfordTO No, I was admittedly a bit discouraged last visit that all the time I invested in learning with the owl paid so little in dividends. I’ve heard that watching a trashy reality show in the language (not translated) is a good way to learn how people actually speak.
@stepfordTO My son, who we’re visiting here has picked up a far more useful vocabulary, but I know more words than him. He can interact with German speakers in everyday situations seemingly quite easily, but it’s a struggle for me. That could just be me though
@stepfordTO I’m actually really seeing the holes in my knowledge tbh. I feel as though I know a lot of nouns and can string together fairly random sentences but am a long way from fluent.
@stepfordTO Never heard of that one. I find Duolingo really just relies on memorization divorced from any real understanding of the rules. I’d rather know why than just try to guess
@stepfordTO I haven’t figured out where I should look for a new “social” home yet. Was thinking about threads, but there are lots of choices. Sadly fragmented
