if you didn't do crypto in 2020-2021, you missed out on the easiest money in the history of humankind

what we see now is nothing compared to then

in 2020-2021:

- everyone was full of optimism and believed the tech

- you did not have dexscreener (remember dextools?) so you couldn't actually check who was buying who was selling onchain

- there was nearly ZERO tooling to check for rugs, scams, honeypots, unauthorized mints

- totem pole was as follows:

=> VCs/blockchain teams fund independent devs
=> devs make ponzis and work on infrastructure
=> naturally, there were third party devs (unaffiliated with team) that could set up shop and scam smart retailers (because it all went up easily, so they won more often than not)
=> smart retail scammed dumb retail (true exit liquidity)

- there was no AI to use to design ponzis, so not everyone could do it, and there was no AI to verify ponzis either

- the threshold to scam people was infinitely lower, with new chains popping up weekly

- there were so many venues to launder money or obfuscate ill gotten gains, you could buy XMR on binance, without KYC, think about this lol

- normies were coming en masse because ethereum going parabolic meant smart contracts were the future which meant anything to do with "programmable" anything would also go parabolic

- the setup was perfect: ethereum is great, but it cannot scale, so let's make something that can, cue the L1/sidechain trade, then cue elon and doge, memes, shiba, etc

- on top of it all, everyone was at home, getting free money from the government, or money from their comfy IT/remote jobs that they "worked" 3 hours a day on and that's if they didn't lie they caught covid

I truly feel sorry for people who never experienced a true tulip mania of the 21st century - possibly the last one in our lifetimes.

Even GCR himself, posted once how he never believed the 2020/2021 bullrun would go as far as it did, and that he lost faith after 2018 in seeing the mania progress as far as it did.

It was a different time.

the robinhood chain and its memes have brought the joy back into my life these past few days. I started a fresh wallet with just $50 and managed to multiply it by way too many x.

I still love solana, but we are not in this space to stay attached to just one chain. If you become a maxi and refuse to try new things, you will miss a lot of opportunities along the way.

It makes me really sad to see crypto gaming projects shut down.

In the future, I’d love to make a crypto game as successful as the one the fishing frenzy team built, and include a small tribute to them inside the game.

Today we are sad to announce that Uncharted and Fishing Frenzy will shutdown and cease operations.

Despite our best efforts, we were ultimately unable to prove our thesis on crypto gaming and could not find product-market-business fit. We spent a lot of time in the past year testing multiple directions and audiences, but the results did not give us enough conviction in a viable path forward.

We are deeply thankful for the community and investors who gave us their time and trust, and we are sorry we could not deliver.

Here is what’s happening next:
- Servers will shutdown on June 25th 2am UTC
- USDC packages are no longer available in the game
- FISH token is now spend-only and untradable
- Karma scores are now open sourced for use by other teams and partners: https://t.co/Hdu0oqywX3
- All USDC from the FISH/USDC LP pool will be redistributed to the community and stakers, based off Karma score (snapshot taken as of 15 Jun)
- All USDC spend since Chapter 3 launch (May 14th) will be refunded (excludes diving)
- All Proof of Distribution rewards will be distributed by Sky Mavis directly to the community, proportional to Karma scores
