University of Toronto students confront conference speakers supporting genocide in Gaza, making clear they don’t want genocide supporters on their campus.
It may be cheesy, but this kind of thing is Canada's best bet for a positive international reputation. And yet, we're pouring money into war and climate destruction rather than art and storytelling.
The thing I most often hear is that I am generous to the women I criticize. Regardless, I've devoted my life to fighting misogyny, cisness, gender qua accumulation startegy, transmisogynoir, whorephobia, the colonial-capitalist patriarchy of the family, and reproductive unfreedom
Rula Jebreal used racist language to criticize Hakeem Jeffries. Her comments were clearly wrong. She has apologized for them unconditionally.
She has also spent her entire adult life combatting bigotry and injustice— not only against her own Afro-Palestinian community and against Palestinians at large, but throughout the world. She has worked tirelessly to create scholarships for students from countries ravaged by war. As her friend, I’ve seen her dedication to human rights firsthand.
If you want to be judged on the totality of your work—not on your worst moment— then extend that same decency to Rula now. And if you oppose bigotry, then press Hakeem Jeffries and other politicians to end US support for a state that practices apartheid and has committed genocide.
Selina Robinson is a very good example of what Zionism really is -- a racist movement that thinks that it's found a silver bullet to allow its adherents to be publicly racist and claim that they're the victim at the same time.
