GW4 is a very good week to wildcard ✅

Yes it's a bit early than the average GW where a manager wildcard's historically but far better than GW3

Teams are going to be identical in GW3 & GW4 but with slightly more information and maybe 1-2 less man city players with an addition of Isak which lacked on GW3 wildcard

Also a lot more of them will move away from Szoboszlai and go for Gakpo or Rogers

Many managers will include one of Bruno or Mbeumo, Mbeumo a lot more looking at the team structure of many teams

GW4 wildcard won't be far off the GW6 wildcard, the core is going to be almost the same in both teams

However, if your team still has the legs to survive 2 more GWs with free transfers i would definitely keep the wildcard for GW6

There's a 20 day gap between GW5 and GW6 coz of the international break. Injuries, a lot more information, injured players returning back

Whittingham gets it. Even after that play there were no smiles in the post game interview. Could see it in his face on the camera shots throughout the game. That’s not to his standard. Post game presser he IDd the need to run the ball and stop the run and said it falls squarely on his shoulders. Of course it falls on many shoulders, but that’s what a leader does.

Many things need to improve before Oklahoma comes to town. The positive is, mainly of those things are completely in Michigans control as it comes down to not beating themselves- penalties, TOs, substitutions and pre snap formations/ alignment.

Most of all is the TOs. I’d say that’s the biggest concern

Celebrate all wins. Never apologize for a win. But have to get better. What I am seeing is both a positive and a negative. Many of the shortcomings were self inflicted. The mistakes were often times mental errors. The positive to that is knowing they can be changed. Generally, you can anticipate week 1 being the sloppiest from that standpoint and it was. The negative is Oklahoma will make you pay significantly for the errors I’m seeing in tape.

The OL had a number of significant lapses. Hard to say if it’s communication, identification, or what. But the best OL operate as one singular unit through IDing the front and communicating assignments pre snap. That’s how you get a hat on a hat and from there power and technique take over. Definitely was far from a clean game from that standpoint. Oklahoma is an extremely aggressive minded defense and will test this once again.

Seemed at times that routes were not hitting the proper landmarks but this is harder to say without knowing the play call and specific rules of this offense.

Defense was not the issue. I’m sure they were gassed from the time they spend on the field. But tackling, pursuit angles, and zone cov drops can certainly improve.

Penalties were a major storyline that proved to be very costly. Michigan was fighting an uphill battle from their own penalty mistakes. Again, this is something they can clean up.

Special teams is often overlooked but is a major factor in deciding close games. Was not to a championship standard.

Some of this is expected week 1. Some of this is because western is a really good football team. But none of that excuses the performance. “You are what you put on tape” is football 101.

You have to watch the tape without ego or emotion. Make it as clean and simple as possible. What went wrong, why’d it go wrong, how can it be fixed, and then fix it asap.

I’m of the belief we will see a different football team next week. I don’t think 1 game should vastly change your opinion of the team. But it clearly and obviously needs to look different next week when Oklahoma comes to town.
