This might not be the same anymore since harada and others left but the tekken team seem to be able to make new visually cool characters, gameplay wise might not be the best (bar Reina) but we’ll never have the amazing gameplay designs of og characters ever again
For me personally I’d love to see more original characters in Tekken like sf6 is doing, most characters not in 8 atp are either dead/replaced, won’t sell or are insanely boring. Bar miary and azu, since Leroy Tekken has had a great track record of original character’s visuals.
Also since sf3 and 6 are chronologically the most recent games in the series and both have an aspect of “next generation” to them I thought it was quite obvious there would be a focus on more original/succesor characters.
I don’t understand the hatred sf6 players have for newcomer characters, 4 in one season is silly, but look back at sf3 which only had 4 OG characters and everyone seems to love that game. There was backlash then too and it faded so I assume it’ll be the same for sf6 in the future
I will say however the season 4 newcomers are a little weak visually, especially bosch who seems like a generic sasuke archetype, as long as the gameplay and animations are cool it still should be fine.
Good patch, should have happened a long time ago and is still just a stepping stone but good to see regardless. Biggest issues are still character identity (no1 in my opinion), system mechanics and combo length.
There are exceptions but even they aren’t entirely accurate, release Leroy dominated the scene because he was broken, but also because of how easy he was, Akuma was arguably on par but since Akuma was a million times harder, he wasn’t seen as much.
I will never take anyone who solely uses tournament results to discern the strength of fighting game characters seriously. They can be an indicator but there are too many variables in tournaments that negate the viability of this way of thinking.
Greatest evo final I’ve ever watched, kazuya was my first main, never thought I’d see him win an evo, ikari is my goat for life for this. Kudos to Knee too, bringing out heihachi for a lore match was the cherry on top.
Then finally heat burst needs to be heavily altered (-9/10) on block and can’t be used in combos or removed. Going into heat should be a reward only. Overall, these issues will never be addressed or fixed especially character identity, so I’ll just wait for tekken 9 lol.
There’s only really 2 big issues with tekken 8, and they’re both unfixable atp in my eyes, heat burst (braindead way of getting into heat and extends combos length way too much) and removal of character identity (weaknesses, execution and move intent changed drastically or gone)
That plus his horrible wall combo were mainly his biggest weaknesses, but they then gave him the best wall combo, plus the other buffs which made him feel very egregious paired with his existing strengths. The issue is that they proceeded to do this on many other characters in s2
