The 4th annual meeting endorsed two Technical Working Group Terms of Reference & workplans, reviewed progress in implementing the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and discussed Ugandaโs GCM Voluntary National Review report, among other key agenda items.

Last November, @MinofHealthUG conducted a simulation at key points and communities along the ๐บ๐ฌ-๐จ๐ฉborder, to strengthen the response to any disease outbreaks. Today, that preparedness, supported by IOM, is proving critical as Uganda tackles #Ebola.

Alongside these efforts, community engagement also remains a key tool, raising awareness on Ebola symptoms, transmission, and prevention to empower people to take action and stay protected.

Supported by @USForeignAssist, IOM ๐บ๐ฌ, together with @MinofHealthUg, has deployed an OmniSense Sentry IV thermo scanner at Entebbe International Airport to strengthen screening of travellers for #Ebola. The machine detects individuals with elevated temperatures within groups.
Using mobility data and border monitoring, IOM is helping governments and partners identify high-risk areas, strengthen surveillance and support Ebola response efforts in DRC, Uganda and across the region.
Following the training, they will undertake daily active surveillance within their communities, systematically visiting households, schools, markets, and other gathering points to identify and report people suspected to have Ebola based on symptoms.
As part of the national #Ebola response, @MinofHealthUG, with support from IOM ๐บ๐ฌ, is training VHTs to strengthen Community Based Surveillance in parts of Kampala where urban transmission has been identified, improving detection, reporting, and triage of community alerts.
The initiative will expand to 20 high-risk districts, including areas with prior outbreaks and those most at risk of cross-border importation and urban spread, across Central Uganda, Bunyoro, Acholi, and West Nile.
@MinofHealthUG, in collaboration with IOM ๐บ๐ฌ, has trained 80 Village Health Team (VHT) members and local leaders in Kasese District in community-based surveillance to strengthen early detection and reporting of Ebola- and mpox-related alerts. This is supported by @StateDeptGHSD
During the two-day engagement, participants were equipped to identify suspected Ebola cases using standard guidelines, recognize warning signs and unusual health events, and follow alert reporting procedures for timely referral.
