@675Claire I didn't get to book in advance from Liverpool with the camper, despite it being under 2m high, but got on after being standby from before it left the island for its return. Worth the wait & had the Heysham 02.15 spot if didn't get on either of the Liverpool crossings before.
@675Claire You've 1000's online, in person in multiple ports & on the phones, so at that stage it's bound to reduce the vehicle space on Manannan as it only has passenger vehicles not freight. If the MM or BMC was also loading 100s of bikes it would probably cause delays. No harm in trying
@675Claire@iomsteampacket You've now said a transit sized van, not an a transit. Even then they vary in length & height. Plenty of cars travel on it with max 1.8m.
As I suggested, try S/B for earlier crossings on your way to Heysham, or with reservations before, IF you can fit, it can't hurt trying ๐ฎ๐ฒ
@675Claire IF space available at time of booking OR came available , cars 1.8m high were bookable. Yes, less 4 wheel space which can open up. I suggesting going standby as I did in T5 camper 1.9m & got on once all booked traffic & s/b Bikes on. Most common swb transit listed as 2.49m H !
@675Claire@ManxRadioMSport It also frees up space for those with larger vehicles. It wasn't that long ago it was all bring back the Lady. A vessel that carried hundreds of bikes with a max vehicle height of 1.9m - they can't please everyone.
Nothing to stop a transit via Liverpool. As I said, you can try!
@675Claire@ManxRadioMSport I think over the years, too many have took the p1$$ turning up with a different vehicle . Spoilt it for others but there's the extra vessel this TT so I'm sure you could try Liverpool, I got on stand by many years ago at Liverpool but in a camper the size of a SWB transit
@675Claire@ManxRadioMSport Manannan can carry vans & sure it can carry some freight, via Heysham only. Not sure if the new port will mean any changes in weight limit but was 3.5 ton & height was an issue on the older fastcrafts.
More crossings via Heysham on Manannan now, did only do Liverpool in TT
@675Claire@ManxRadioMSport Is your van within Size/weight restrictions,as it's worth checking for a space after each sailing as someone may have gone standby on earlier crossing so their space frees up. You could also goto Liverpool as standby for crossings before you'd have to drive 90mins to check in
@RichW426@ManxRadioMSport Problem is everyone comes over several days. But everyone wants to leave over the same couple of days. Can't expect multiple ships kept just for the 4 weeks a year such capacity is needed.
It's not like hiring a car if you need extra seats for more passengers to go places
@sleeepwalker860@AHardyBreed Non fans often leave the island for a sunny family holiday as outside most areas Summer half term at schools, so cheaper & they rent house to home stay & that pays for their holiday & probably a lot more ๐
@AHardyBreed Oh dear.... can't imagine from Belfast will have availability, even after the release date.
He may find a local wanting to take up booking so gets some money back to hope he they can get to see some up close & personal TT action ๐
@portwillwill@AHardyBreed Yes you'd be coming to the TT not booking the wrong direction and heading off to Belfast to escape TT action like many locals do & put house for home stay . Most of TT is outside UK school hols so only time locals get cheap deals to head of to warmer locations, not Belfast oops
@M5Iom School Hols always book up early, offers gone months in advance not a few days. Xmas is peak as much as Summer are for families all have 2 wks, not 6. School hols aren't flexible. So maybe look at your own flexibility as I'm sure you won't get flights & hire car for less. #logic
@JimHamilton7@metoffice Warning โ ๏ธ states Irish Sea Coasts, so IOM getting hit hard. @metoffice, for years used maps with "Miss Isle of Man" syndrome, but now skirt around it 1 min & larger map you mark EU Cities & yet for Ireland it's Dublin shown not Belfast which IS part of UK weather warning ๐คทโโ๏ธ
