We’ve just open sourced our Feetech-tuna tool, which is a cross-platform script for managing and commissioning Feetech servos. If you’ve ever used FD.exe, you know why. Here’s the link: https://t.co/48WHfoWhK5
Built up a finger set and finalized all the plastics for the first cobot forearm build. This one is going on a UR3 at the shop for some life cycle testing.
Not the most exciting motion path, but the USB control stream to and from the DexHand is working. I am testing a 50hz servo position update loop upstream and 10hz back down at the moment and it all seems healthy. Obviously, the servos don't update that fast, but was curious.
Testing out the latest prints. It's amazing how colour coordinating the materials can make you look like you mean business. This is the new forearm and palm rev going together. Hoping this is our final spin before retolerancing everything for SLS printing.
I don't normally machine a lot of parts at this scale, but it was kind of a fun challenge to build these motor transmission brackets for our upcoming robot arm. #cnc#robot#humanoid
Really excited to share that the beta program for the #dexhand is going live! If you’re looking for a dexterous humanoid hand for research, please check it out. #robotics#humanoid
@scottmonaghan@OpenRoboticsOrg@TheRealFergs@kscottz Also, more often than not it works just fine to reuse the terminal, but if anything crazy happens, it’s not a bad idea to remember you were cheating a bit and go back and start again fresh.
🎙 This week's Podcast episode features Trent Shumay!
🤖 Here you can see him with the open-source DexHand:
With genius Rob Knight - the man who founded the DexHand project - Trent built and tuned a DexHand, in the video you can see Trent in his @iotdesignshop and made it a goal to document this process.
To find out more about Trent, his start in the 90s gaming industry, how he got into robotics, and his collaboration with Rob, founder of The Robot Studio, listen to the new episode of:

@audrow The reason there’s no good shared solution here is that everyone thinks they’re getting rich solving the future of work so they won’t share their work. We need a lot more open source humanoid components for others to learn with. (I’m biased here, but believe this firmly).
@audrow Humanoids. There’s dozens of adequate platforms now, and they all lack the same thing - the AI that’s being teased to control them. I’m really worried these efforts will wither on the vine waiting for the AI to arrive.
@kscottz@audrow Unfortunately I think STEM becomes a dumping ground for people who had hoped a robot would take off and then realize there’s no market. They tend to not address the whole curriculum issue and how educators will actually be able to use their robot and it goes nowhere.
🎙 In my fourth episode, I am talking to Trent Shumay!
🕹 As a Computer Scientist, he started in the wild gaming industry of the mid90s, working a lot on 3D Rendering.
🤖 Today he runs an independent secret workshop where he's focused on building robotic applications related to manufacturing technology.
We will talk about both worlds and everything in between!
