China has decided to pay interest on their own stablecoin, because it benefits ordinary people, and they recognize it as a competitive advantage.

I worry we are missing the forest through the trees in the U.S. Rewards on stablecoins will not change lending one bit - but it does have a big impact on whether U.S. stablecoins are competitive.

Rewards (or even paying interest) benefits ordinary people just like community lending does. We have to let the market do both.

Wildly out of touch? I think you’re being sarcastic (right? 😄) yield earning stablecoins are sucking the air out of the room. There is no more banking system as we know it with them. Also, the Fed is also now trying to save us from a fiscal disaster with tbills as reserves for payments instruments.

Lastly, the Genius Act said central bank account was acceptable reserves for stablecoins, this is important.

Selfishly, I enjoy watching the slow walk to CBDC they swore off. 😎
