If what we were doing to cows, pigs, deer, and elk we were instead doing to dogs and cats, it would in fact be considered animal cruelty. IP28 is about ending the intentional killing of animals, regardless of species.
Has Oregon become a testing ground for bad ideas? Measure 110 sounded good. Now we’re being asked to consider another ballot measure with a great title and promises of good intentions.
Before we vote on any measure, maybe we should ask a simple question: What’s really in it? Watch the video and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Momentum continues to build for the SAFE Act.
We applaud @SenMcCormickPA and @AnaliliaForNJ for joining the growing bipartisan effort to end horse slaughter and the export of American horses into the slaughter pipeline.
Alongside your voices, letters, and calls, the Wild Beauty Foundation and our coalition partners traveled to Washington, D.C. during Lost Horses fly-ins to meet with Members of Congress and their staff, advocating for and advancing these critical protections.
Every new champion in Congress represents another voice standing against the shipment of tens of thousands of American horses across our borders each year, into the darkness of a broken system that has operated for far too long.
Their support for the stand-alone SAFE Act also sends an important message as anti-slaughter language advances through the surface transportation reauthorization process. As the legislation we have fought for moves toward consideration on the House floor, it is essential that these protections remain intact.
This is an essential moment to keep the pressure on. Please make the call, send a letter in moments through https://t.co/XL1O1VwLnW, share this message, and tag your favorite animal-loving celebrities, media outlets, and lawmakers.
Thank you for being part of this journey, and for standing with The Lost Horses.

We're sometimes told that without killing off a bunch of wild animals, which IP28 would prohibit in Oregon, how else can we manage the spread of disease? If we're genuinely interested in helping wild animal welfare, we have non-lethal options.

If they were a dog, we'd call this abuse. IP28 moves to protect all animals in Oregon from intentional injury and killing, not just our companion animals.
Sometimes people cremate an animal's body after they are shot and killed, other times people eat their body after they are shot and killed. Why is the death of one mourned and the other celebrated? Let's treat both like the loss of life that they are.

@WashCo_OR@GuntherEagleman We're trying to protect animals from being injured, killed, masturbated, and forcibly impregnated. Cultures always shift over time, and we believe this would represent a shift towards greater compassion.
@No_Mo_Diversity@GuntherEagleman This actually does propose a ban on killing animals, including in slaughterhouses. The coverage is a bit misleading since it doesn't just ban killing animals in the wild.
@GuntherEagleman I would sign that petition if I lived there. Excellent. We need to stop victimizing others and being racist (caring only about the "human race.")
Has the world (or at least Oregon) gone mad?
If animal agriculture doesn’t get legal exemptions from animal cruelty and bestiality laws it won’t be able to continue! 🤯
Do you really want a world without slaughterhouses? 😡
Do you know what species you’re eating for lunch? Not “chicken”—which chicken? What kind? Did you know there are dozens of breeds, each with different temperaments?

"Abuse one animal, and you can be charged with a felony; abuse a million, and you have a business model."
The animal exploitation industries are exempt from our cruelty laws. It's time we remove those exemptions. #yesonip3

You can just say you support killing animals and leave it at that, but maybe calling our chief petitioner a freak is easier than defending killing animals.
Portland-based activist David Michelson 28 years old, born in Denver, Colorado is behind IP28 😂👍 what a fuckin freak! Hey crazy eyes go back to Colorado. We WILL continue to hunt fish trap ranch and breed livestock in Oregon that’s what we do here . Fck you you liberal freak!
IP28 protects animals from being intentionally injured, killed, and forcibly bred. Yes, that is protection. You might not want to protect them from those things, but don't pretend it isn't protection.
Initiative Petition 28 (IP28), also known as the People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act, is being promoted as an animal-protection measure, but its practical effect would be a sweeping assault on rural life, food production, property rights, and the responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
Abolishing the system of killing animals is exactly what our campaign is trying to do in Oregon with IP28. If we were killing our companion animals, we'd call it abuse. Let's consider it abuse even when we're talking about pigs, cows, primates, elk, and all other animals.
The way we torture pigs is a sin. We can afford to pay a little more for one kind of food in order to not torture hundreds of millions of these poor animals.

@rude_smoochie If IP28 passed, you could still catch a mouse in a non-lethal mouse trap (which have existed since the 1800s) and you can still "keep" farmed animals, you just couldn't kill them.
