For seven years, Misaki believed she and her husband had built their life together.
She was wrong.
Misaki was a successful investment banker in Tokyo, earning enough to maintain a luxurious lifestyle in their ¥210 million apartment in Minato.
Her husband, Haruto, presented himself as a respected architect.
But behind closed doors, Misaki financed almost everything.
She paid the mortgage, covered their European holidays, bought his Mercedes-AMG, and even transferred ¥45 million to rescue his struggling architectural firm.
She never complained. She believed marriage meant supporting each other.
Then she noticed unusual transactions on their joint account.
Luxury hotels in Paris. Expensive restaurants in Monaco. A private villa in Ibiza.
When she confronted Haruto, he called them business expenses.
Misaki believed him until her younger sister, Hana, called from Osaka.
“I saw Haruto yesterday,” Hana said.
“That's impossible. He's in Tokyo.”
There was a long silence.
“He wasn't alone.”
Misaki's stomach tightened.
“Who was he with?”
Hana hesitated before answering.
“Emi. His former girlfriend.”
Misaki sat motionless.
She had spent years helping her husband build a future, never realizing that he might be using her money to build a completely different life with someone else.
She relaxed cheating at the race so many times, won't help her to achieve her goal. So she decided to take the race without injecting herself any more, which makes her to come out first at the finish line.
Is the horror that the building won’t let them leave, or that the building was supposed to be helping?
The New Mutants (2020) is the X-Men film that sat on a shelf and came out anyway. Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga — five kids in a facility that calls itself treatment. Alice Braga is the doctor who holds the keys.
Josh Boone shoots it like a haunted hospital that happens to have powers.
This clip is the corridor, or the common room, doing the movie’s only real idea. Someone is testing what they can do. Someone else is already afraid of what they did. Watch the walls. The camera stays locked and fluorescent, closer to a psych-ward drama than a cape film, so the powers read as symptoms. That’s a directing choice: no city to smash, no team to join, just a wing and a lock.
Compare it to Glass, which also traps enhanced people in a facility and asks who’s sick. New Mutants is younger and softer, a YA horror that never quite commits to either half. The context that isn’t obvious: it was meant to start a horror lane for the X-Men, then the studio changed hands and the lane closed. What you see is a film finished under a different company than the one that ordered it.
Why it half-works: the cast is better than the assignment, especially Taylor-Joy treating menace like a personality. Why it fails: the scares are the trailer, the lore is a speech, and the “who is the real monster” turn is the one you’ve seen in every ward movie.
Rating: 5/10. Watch if you want the X-kids as patients. Skip if you waited for the version the delays promised.
In the clip, treatment or containment — which word fits the room?
