Ghana says the decision was based on ongoing criminal proceedings in the United Kingdom that have not resulted in a conviction, arguing that it undermines the principle of presumption of innocence.

The government has lodged a note of protest with Canadian authorities and is pursuing diplomatic efforts to have the decision reviewed.
