The wider context that makes this necessary, and links it to concerns over strategic stability and domestic #AI arms races, by @nfergus is here. https://t.co/hk1XBpNbnw
Why the world must agree to regulate #AI via @FT and @martinwolf_ This calls for an AI disarmament treaty between the US and China. The underlying rationale is well articulated.

Our updated world nuclear arsenal overview in the SIPRI Yearbook is now public. Honored to assemble, with @mattkorda, this annual production with @SIPRIorg to assist the public debate about the status and future of nuclear weapons. Press release: https://t.co/l4OaCo3e7j
@irgarner Argh. You were lucky! I had to stitch my own stab wound, harpoon 3 people trying to land on’t beach in a small boat, n then lick ‘road clean……all before breakfast…
Terrific piece by @nfergus on why #AI frontier models like #ClaudeMythos are destroying strategic stability and may provoke short-term action by #China on #Taiwan.

The Great Powers are back. 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇨🇳🇷🇺
And we can only understand their future by looking to the history that forged them.
‘The Return of the Great Powers’ is available today. https://t.co/SbhaoK5t9Y
Am I the only person thinking this is all heading to state ownership/control of #AI ? The recursive self-improvement described in this piece, if it succeeds but causes serious security threats, will just be too powerful to be left in private hands. https://t.co/jjsUqoBquP
Prof. John Mearsheimer :
A number of European leaders have basically said we should fight to the last Ukrainian, which I find morally sickening.
The Ukrainians are going to lose this war. They should have quit a long time ago for their own good.
Ukraine is in a demographic death spiral, and we're encouraging them to throw bodies into the meat grinder when they're going to lose anyway.
The British, French, and German leaders are really enthusiastic about continuing the war, but that's because their people are not dying.
“We can distinguish the great powers by a set of common characteristics, which reveal that there are only four great powers that exist today—and they are not necessarily the ones you would expect.” See my piece in @ForeignPolicy introducing ‘The Return of the Great Powers’.

@edwardstrngr65@brendanpsimms I’m not exactly sure to be honest. But the account became so algorithmically marginalised that all posts became pointless so I decided to shut it down. I partly relocated to the azure place but have decided to try again here as well. Long, slow haul ahead.
Perhaps be careful what is wished for. A collapsed state stuffed with nuclear weapons is a scenario we were lucky to get away with once, thanks to the Nunn-Lugar initiative. We might not get away with it a second time….

Headline in one of today’s Russian papers: “Russian regions and big business are arming themselves to defend against attacks by Ukrainian drones.” Plus, a newspaper article from last week that has disappeared. #ReadingRussia
I’ll be speaking at @CSNS_UK in @KingsCollegeLon on Friday about my new book, The Return of the Great Powers, and the challenges of a returning age of great-power rivalry.

Russian drones, US troop withdrawals, Trump emotionality, Hormuz, slow economic growth. Not a pretty picture. My take.
