Rahul Gandhi’s sudden opposition to the Ken-Betwa Link Project raises a rather simple question: when did Congress change its mind?
This is Dr Manmohan Singh speaking in the Rajya Sabha in 2005, placing high hopes on the Ken-Betwa river-linking project. The original MoU between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh was also signed in 2005 under the Congress-led UPA.
The project languished for years under the very government Rahul Gandhi’s party led. It took the Modi Government to secure the final agreement in 2021 and move the project towards implementation.
Today, Rahul Gandhi is opposing the same project.
And what is his alternative for drought-ravaged Bundelkhand?
The Ken-Betwa project is designed to provide irrigation to 8.11 lakh hectares across 2,000 villages in 10 districts, drinking water to around 65 lakh people, besides generating power. Rehabilitation and compensation are governed by the statutory framework, with dedicated grievance-redressal mechanisms for affected families.
If there are genuine grievances about rehabilitation or compensation, they must be addressed transparently and fairly. No one disputes that.
But Rahul Gandhi cannot turn a project his own party conceived and championed in 2005 into a BJP conspiracy merely because the Modi Government is finally delivering it.
Congress had ten years at the Centre after signing the MoU. Bundelkhand remained drought-stricken and water-stressed.
Opposing a project after failing to implement it is not tribal solidarity. It is political opportunism.
If Rahul Gandhi believes Ken-Betwa is fundamentally wrong, he should first explain why his own party supported it in the first place.

The whole nation saw it.
She is the same woman under whom the Communal Violence Bill, was drafted by the National Advisory Council led by Sonia Gandhi during the UPA-II government around 2011–2013.
The draft defined the "victim" group in a riot exclusively as religious or linguistic minorities and the majority community (Hindus) was by default the perpetrator and minorities were inherently the victims in any communal clash without any investigation.
The bill was later shelved due to fierce opposition by the BJP. Otherwise today 80% of the majority community would be in jail.

Haha! This is like every gareeb who becomes successful saying, “Main street light ke neeche padhta tha,” or every successful actor saying, “Main platform par sota tha.”
Every year, lakhs of Indian students go to the US for higher education, with almost everyone hoping to find a job and settle there. Yet, most of them (81% as per current data) eventually have to return, mostly because of unemployment, visa issues, and immigration uncertainty, which has worsened many times over since Trump came back.
Each one of them could then claim that they came back after watching Swades and wanted to serve their country.
Btw, SRK’s character in Swades was a NASA scientist who left a lucrative job to return to India. Which job did Dipke left? He was unemployed. Aur Swades se inspired tha to gaya ki kyon tha? Not that he was going there to study engineering or medicine, which he could then put to use for his village; he did a master’s in public relations instead.
This single video has stripped away the carefully cultivated veneer of congeniality and exposed something far more troubling.
The impulse to disrupt or diminish Vande Mataram, a song that stirred generations of freedom fighters and became one of the most powerful expressions of India’s national awakening, will not sit well with Indians.
Vande Mataram is an emotion. It is the sound of a civilisation awakening to its own strength. It stirred the hearts of revolutionaries, gave courage to those who stood up to colonial rule, and became inseparably woven into India’s freedom struggle.
When its words are sung, they evoke not just the land, but the rivers, fields, soil and spirit of Bharat. It carries the memory of sacrifice and the unmistakable yearning for freedom. Few songs possess the power to turn patriotism from an idea into an emotion felt deep within the soul.
Perhaps Sonia Gandhi will never fully understand the profound Indianness of Vande Mataram. But she must understand why India has embraced it: because it reflects our civilisational ethos, our history, our collective memory and, ultimately, who we are.
You can debate politics. You can disagree on ideology. But treating a song that has stirred the patriotic imagination of generations with anything less than reverence is a different matter altogether.

Sonia Gandhi’s attempt to use Manmohan Singh’s name to whitewash the UPA decade needs to be called out.
The Indian Express editorial says history will remember Dr Manmohan Singh kindly. Perhaps. But history is not going to be rewritten through a Congress-authored obituary masquerading as a balance sheet of the UPA government.
Let us get the Talabira-II case straight.
In 2005, when Manmohan Singh was both Prime Minister and Coal Minister, Hindalco sought the Talabira-II block. The Screening Committee had initially recommended Neyveli Lignite Corporation. The recommendation was subsequently changed and Hindalco was brought into a joint venture. The PMO was involved in processing the representations and Singh, as Coal Minister, approved the revised allocation.
Years later, the CBI investigated the matter. Crucially, the CBI itself filed two closure reports in 2014, finding that the evidence did not substantiate the allegations.
But Special CBI Judge Bharat Parashar did not accept those reports. He directed further investigation, ordered Singh’s statement to be recorded and eventually, on March 11, 2015, summoned Singh, Kumar Mangalam Birla, P.C. Parakh and others as accused.
Singh challenged that order in the Supreme Court.
And here is where the convenient Congress narrative usually stops.
On April 1, 2015, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices V. Gopala Gowda and C. Nagappan stayed the summons and the proceedings against all six accused. The CBI and the Union government were issued notice.
The stay remained in place for more than 11 years.
It is therefore intellectually dishonest to now suggest that the matter simply disappeared because Singh died.
It did not.
On July 29, 2026, after Singh’s death, the Supreme Court could technically have disposed of his appeal as infructuous. Instead, the Court specifically examined the two CBI closure reports and the trial judge’s decision to reject them.
The CJI-led bench concluded that there was no valid reason for the Special Judge to reject the CBI’s closure reports and take cognisance. It set aside the impugned order, accepted the CBI’s closure reports and closed the matter on merits.
So let us be precise:
The Supreme Court did not say that Manmohan Singh was guilty.
It did not say that he was personally corrupt.
And it certainly did not say that the entire UPA record was beyond scrutiny.
It found that this particular criminal case could not proceed on the evidence collected by the CBI.
That distinction matters.
And this is precisely where Sonia Gandhi’s editorial becomes political propaganda.
Dr Manmohan Singh is no more. He should not be turned into a shield for the Congress party. His name cannot be repeatedly invoked to sanitise a decade of UPA governance that was marked by the 2G controversy, coal-allocation controversy, Commonwealth Games controversy, policy paralysis and serious questions over the functioning of the government.
A Supreme Court closure in one Talabira-II criminal case does not erase the history of the UPA decade.
Nor does it erase the fact that 214 coal block allocations were cancelled by the Supreme Court in 2014, following the Court’s findings concerning the allocation process.
And Sonia Gandhi, of all people, should be the last person to appropriate Manmohan Singh’s legacy for political absolution.
If Congress genuinely respects Dr Singh, let his record stand on its own.
Do not use his name to whitewash yours.
History may remember Manmohan Singh differently.
But history will also remember that Sonia Gandhi and the Congress presided over the political era whose controversies made “Coalgate”, “2G” and “policy paralysis” part of India’s political vocabulary.
One judicial closure cannot become a Congress certificate of good governance.
Respect Dr Manmohan Singh if you wish. But Sonia Gandhi cannot outsource the UPA’s accountability to his legacy.

अभ्यर्थियों का आरोप है कि परीक्षा पास करने और रैंक लिस्ट में नाम होने के बावजूद अब तक नियुक्ति पत्र जारी नहीं किए गए हैं।

Names can be removed only on legally permitted grounds, such as death, change of residence, duplicate registration, or ineligibility, and there is a prescribed process for getting the name restored.
The application can be submitted online through the ECI Voters' Services Portal or offline to the ERO, AERO or BLO. The ERO may conduct field verification and examine the documents submitted. If the person is found eligible, the name is added to the electoral roll.
My name was also deleted from the voter list, despite being a Modi supporter. I followed the prescribed procedure and got my name added again.
For you, PM Modi may be your entire existence. But for PM Modi you do not even exist.
