The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

⚽✔️ On Sunday, August 16, we were honoured to join migrant workers at Greenhill Produce in Chatham-Kent for the exciting final of their very own mini soccer league! 🙌
A huge thank you to the players for inviting us to be part of the action and cheer them on as they competed for the title. We even live streamed part of the day so the wider community could share in the excitement and support the teams from afar! 📱⚽
@collegeboreal led our involvement in this worker-driven activity — a wonderful example of empowering migrant workers and standing behind them in sport and in any form. Initiatives like these build so much more than teams; they create connection, belonging, and community. 💪

The TeaMWork Project was pleased to attend the Caribbean Community Fair hosted by @SouthEssexCC and @OHCOWclinics in Leamington.
The event brought together members of the Caribbean community and local residents for an afternoon of food, music, prizes, and connection. Attendees enjoyed Caribbean cuisine, participated in raffles, and had opportunities to win a variety of prizes, including multiple bicycles that were raffled off throughout the event.

What a special day! TeaMWork had the honour of bringing seven agricultural migrant workers from Guatemala — themselves Indigenous Mayan descendants — from Wheatley in Chatham-Kent out to the Caldwell First Nation Annual Pow Wow in Leamington for their very first Pow Wow experience.

A special thank you to @WEBikeKitchen for delivering an engaging bike safety presentation in Spanish, and distributed bike lights, helping ensure participants could access important safety information in their preferred language. Attendees also learned about their basic rights in Canada and the community resources available to support them throughout their stay.
Participants received backpacks, safety vests, sun hats, and TeaMWork planners containing helpful information about rights and local services. By bringing together practical information, community supports, and cultural traditions, the event helped workers build knowledge, confidence, and connections while living and working in Ontario. 💙

In 2024, over 100,000 new apprentices registered, but only about 34,000 completed their apprenticeship. Time to change that.

Through Team Canada Strong, we’re providing apprentices with a $400 weekly top-up while they are training, and a $5,000 apprenticeship completion bonus when they get their Red Seal certification — helping more young Canadians get trained and onto job sites faster.
